Ubisoft Rumored to Be Working on Two New Rayman Projects

The Rayman franchise could finally be making its long-awaited comeback to modern platforms, according to a new rumor from a well-known gaming industry insider. Ubisoft has yet to confirm anything officially, but reports suggest the publisher may have multiple projects in development centered around its iconic platforming hero.

Rayman’s Return May Include a Compilation Release

The rumor points to Ubisoft developing not just one, but two Rayman titles. One of these is said to be a compilation of past Rayman games brought to modern hardware, giving fans the chance to relive the series’ most memorable adventures. The other project is rumored to be a brand-new Rayman entry, possibly leaning on the 3D platforming formula that began with Rayman 2: The Great Escape.

According to insider Nash Weedle, both projects could adopt the hand-drawn cartoon-like art style popularized by Rayman Origins and Rayman Legends. These rumored projects may also have been presented to industry partners behind closed doors during Gamescom in Cologne, Germany, which ran from August 20 to 24.

Rayman’s Legacy and Dormant Years

The first Rayman launched in 1995, introducing players to its colorful worlds and challenging 2D platforming gameplay. The franchise made the leap into 3D with 1999’s Rayman 2: The Great Escape, a game remembered for its difficulty and imaginative design. Rayman’s last mainline appearance came with 2013’s Rayman Legends, a critically acclaimed platformer praised for its hand-drawn visuals and cooperative gameplay. Since then, Rayman has only appeared in minor roles, including Ubisoft’s crossover Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope.

Fans have been eager for Rayman’s return, with hopes reignited in September 2024 when Ubisoft renewed the trademark for Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc. While the renewal sparked speculation, the game has yet to receive a modern re-release.

Waiting for Official Word from Ubisoft

As of now, Ubisoft has made no official announcements regarding the rumored Rayman projects. With Ubisoft currently handling several other remakes and new titles, the timeline for Rayman’s comeback remains unclear. Fans may have to wait until a future Ubisoft showcase or major event to learn more.

Still, the possibility of Rayman finally returning—whether through a compilation of classics or an entirely new platforming adventure—has sparked excitement among long-time players who have been waiting over a decade for the limbless hero to step back into the spotlight.
