Roblox Hit With New Lawsuit Alleging It Enabled Child Exploitation

A Georgia mother and her 9-year-old son have filed a lawsuit against Roblox, accusing the $90 billion gaming giant of serving as a “hunting ground for child-sex predators” and failing to protect its young users.

The case, filed in DeKalb County state court last week, alleges that Roblox’s negligence directly led to the boy’s sexual exploitation. According to court documents, predators harassed the child for months, ultimately coercing him into sending explicit images and videos to his school friends. The family claims this harassment caused severe psychological trauma, forcing the boy to change schools.

This legal action is the latest in a growing wave of lawsuits targeting Roblox, many of which accuse the platform of prioritizing user growth and profits over child safety.

Allegations of Negligence and Exploitation

The lawsuit claims that Roblox failed to implement even the most basic safety measures, such as robust age verification and effective parental controls, which could have prevented the predator from ever making contact with the boy.

One statement in the lawsuit reads:

“Had Defendant implemented even the most basic system of age and identity verification, as well as effective parental controls, Plaintiff would never have engaged with this predator and never been harmed.”

Attorney Matthew Dolman, representing the Georgia mother, says this case is just the tip of the iceberg. His firm is reportedly investigating over 300 similar incidents involving Roblox and child exploitation.

Roblox’s Response and Safety Measures

In a statement, Roblox expressed deep concern over the allegations and insisted that safety is a top priority. The company pointed to its use of advanced technology, 24/7 human moderation, and restrictions on sharing personal information or explicit content.

Roblox also highlighted its partnerships with law enforcement and child safety organizations, along with the introduction of Sentinel, an open-source AI-powered detection system. According to Roblox, Sentinel helped flag around 1,200 potential exploitation attempts in the first half of the year.

Additionally, Roblox announced a new age verification tool in July 2024 that uses selfie-style videos to estimate a user’s age. If a user is found to be under 13, Roblox automatically adjusts the account’s age setting and restricts access to age-inappropriate features.

Despite these measures, the lawsuit argues that Roblox has “grossly misrepresented” the safety of its platform, knowing that law enforcement arrests of predators targeting children on Roblox occur nationwide.

Problematic Game Content Cited in Court

Court documents claim Roblox hosts a “staggering number” of games simulating sexual activity, naming specific examples such as “Survive Diddy” and “Escape to Epstein Island”—references to public figures with sexual offense connections.

Roblox, which hosts millions of user-generated games known as “experiences,” has an audience of more than 111 million daily active users, with nearly 40% of them under 13 years old.

The lawsuit argues that this combination of massive reach, a young user base, and insufficient safeguards creates an environment ripe for exploitation.

Broader Pattern of Allegations

This case is far from isolated. Roblox has faced at least eight other lawsuits in 2025 alleging child sexual exploitation, with several filed by Dolman’s firm and others by Anapol Weiss, a Pennsylvania-based law group.

The accusations align with findings from an October 2024 report by Hindenburg Research, which described Roblox as an “X-rated pedophile hellscape” and accused it of exposing children to grooming, pornography, violent content, and extreme abuse.

Some lawsuits also name Discord as a co-defendant, arguing that predators often move conversations from Roblox to other platforms. In one case, a 14-year-old girl in Alabama was allegedly groomed on Roblox before being lured into a dangerous encounter through conversations on Discord. Police intervention prevented an assault, and the suspect was arrested.

A Possible Turning Point for Child Safety Online

While the Georgia lawsuit is still in its early stages, child safety advocates view it as a potential catalyst for real change. The case shines a light on the urgent need for stronger protections for minors in online spaces, particularly in platforms that attract massive underage audiences.

If successful, this lawsuit could push Roblox—and other online platforms—to adopt more rigorous safety protocols, including mandatory identity verification for users interacting with minors, stricter parental control tools, and more aggressive monitoring of user-generated content.

For now, families, legal teams, and child safety organizations are watching closely. While this is not yet a full victory, it represents a significant step toward holding tech giants accountable for the environments they create.
