Monster Hunter Wilds Update 1.021 Causes Crashes for Some Players

The latest update for Monster Hunter Wilds has introduced a serious issue for some players, leading to unexpected crashes during gameplay. Capcom has confirmed it is aware of the problem and is actively working on a fix, though no release window has been provided for the upcoming corrective patch.

According to Capcom, the crashes can occur when players “faint and return to camp during Fast Travel or a quest under certain conditions.” The upcoming patch, labeled 1.021.01.00, is expected to resolve the issue.

Content and Changes in Update 1.021

Despite the crash reports, Update 1.021 brought new additions and adjustments to the game. These include:

  • New appraisal item: The Glowing Stone.
  • Recoil Aim Assist option for ranged weapon users.
  • New Melding Pot feature related to Appraised Talismans.
  • Multiple bug fixes and balance adjustments to improve gameplay stability and combat flow.

Capcom also addressed numerous technical issues and continues to work on performance optimization for PC. Game director Yuya Tokuda has stated that reducing CPU strain without compromising performance is a development priority, with improvements potentially arriving after the game’s fourth title update this winter.

Sales and Player Base Decline

While Monster Hunter Wilds enjoyed an explosive start earlier this year, selling over 10 million units—with around 80% sold in its first three days—the momentum has slowed significantly. In the last quarter, only 477,000 copies were sold, and the game’s Steam player base has dropped by approximately 98% since launch.

The decline has been attributed to the lack of frequent updates and long content gaps. Despite the positive critical reception, with an average score of 89 on OpenCritic, fans have voiced concerns over pacing and support.
