Discord Removes Roblox Condos From Discovery, yet still accessible

In a recent move aimed at improving platform safety, Discord has removed Roblox condo servers from its Discovery feature, making it harder for children to stumble upon these explicit communities. Roblox condos are user-created games within Roblox that contain sexual content — entirely inappropriate for the platform’s young player base.

Previously, these servers were easily accessible through Discord’s search function, even appearing directly in Discovery. While Discord had attempted to block the keyword “condos” months ago, simple spelling changes allowed the content to remain visible. The latest change finally removes them from Discovery, significantly reducing casual access for minors.

The Problem Isn’t Over

While this change is a positive step, it doesn’t mean Roblox condo communities are gone. The servers themselves still exist and can be joined through invite links. Predator-hunting creators like Schle — known for catching and helping prosecute online offenders — report that many of these explicit servers are still active and functional.

Discord has not issued mass bans on these communities, raising speculation about whether the platform is gathering evidence for law enforcement rather than outright removing them. However, this remains unconfirmed.

NSFW Content Still Easily Accessible to Underage Users

Even with Roblox condos hidden from Discovery, explicit servers are still visible to accounts registered as under 18 due to loopholes in Discord’s filtering system. By slightly altering search terms — for example, removing a letter from “NSFW” — minors can find sexually explicit communities.

Some of these servers fail to mark their channels as age-restricted, allowing minors full access to graphic content. This directly violates Discord’s community guidelines, which prohibit exposing minors to sexual material.

Reporting Tools Have Been Removed

One of the most frustrating elements for safety advocates is Discord’s decision to remove in-app reporting for Discovery listings. The feature, introduced experimentally in 2022, allowed users to report inappropriate servers directly from the Discovery interface. As of late 2024, it has been removed without explanation, leaving users unable to flag adult communities without joining them first.

A Flawed Age-Restriction System

Discord has an “age-restricted server” designation that prevents underage accounts from joining certain communities. While effective when applied, it relies heavily on server owners voluntarily marking their own servers as adult-only — something unlikely in communities actively seeking underage members.

A simple technical solution would be to prevent all age-restricted servers from appearing in Discovery, but Discord has not implemented this safeguard.

The Bigger Picture: Discord’s Responsibility

The ongoing accessibility of NSFW servers to minors raises serious questions about Discord’s enforcement of its own rules. While removing Roblox condos from Discovery is a win for child safety, it addresses only one part of a much larger problem. Without consistent moderation, effective reporting tools, and automated filtering of adult content in Discovery, minors will continue to be exposed to harmful material.

Advocates stress that Discord should:

  • Reinstate Discovery reporting tools.
  • Automatically hide age-restricted servers from Discovery.
  • Proactively moderate explicit communities instead of relying solely on user reports.

Until these changes happen, the platform remains vulnerable to misuse — and so do its younger users.
