Electronic Arts has officially confirmed that Battlefield 6 will maintain the standard $70 launch price, putting to rest recent rumors suggesting the upcoming shooter would adopt a higher-than-usual $80 base price. This announcement comes just ahead of the anticipated Battlefield 6 multiplayer reveal set for July 31.
Rumors Sparked Widespread Concern
The pricing controversy began earlier this month after a trusted insider claimed that Battlefield 6 would retail for €80 in Europe, which many assumed would translate to a $90 price point in the U.S. With several major publishers already testing or adopting $80 price tags for AAA titles, fans worried EA might follow suit.
Although EA had previously stated it had no plans to raise prices beyond the $70 standard, some fans remained skeptical, fearing the company might reverse course before launch. These concerns were amplified by industry trends, including Nintendo’s $80 pricing for Mario Kart World and Microsoft’s now-reversed decision to price The Outer Worlds 2 at $80.
EA Holds the Line at $70
During EA’s Q1 2025 earnings call, CEO Andrew Wilson directly addressed the speculation. He reiterated the publisher’s commitment to a flexible pricing strategy, emphasizing that no dramatic pricing changes are planned.
“We maintain a broad pricing strategy across our catalog, ranging from free-to-play experiences to premium editions,” Wilson said. “No dramatic changes [are] planned yet.”
This confirmation effectively eliminates the possibility of Battlefield 6 joining the small but growing list of games with an $80 base price. While the $70 price tag remains a point of contention for some players nostalgic for the $60 era, EA’s decision not to push it further may help the publisher preserve goodwill as it prepares to launch one of its most important titles in recent years.
A Critical Launch for EA
Battlefield 6 is currently being developed by multiple EA studios and is seen as a major opportunity for the franchise to reestablish its footing in the competitive FPS landscape. With heightened expectations surrounding the game’s multiplayer reveal, EA’s decision to avoid the $80 pricing controversy may prove strategic.
Still, the company’s stance could change down the road. If other blockbuster titles—like GTA 6—normalize the $80 price point, EA may eventually reconsider for future releases. For now, however, Battlefield 6 remains locked in at $70, giving fans a clearer picture of what to expect when the game launches in fall 2025.
