Assetto Corsa PS4 Online Services Shut Down Without Warning, Sparking Concerns Over Future Support

PS4 players discover Assetto Corsa servers are offline, with no official notice from the developer

Fans of Assetto Corsa on PlayStation 4 were caught off guard this summer when the game’s online services were quietly shut down without any formal announcement. The sudden loss of multiplayer functionality has left players frustrated and worried about the longevity of the racing simulator on other platforms as well.

Developed by Italian studio Kunos Simulazioni, Assetto Corsa launched in 2014 on PC and was later ported to PS4 and Xbox One in 2016, with an iOS version following years later. Known for its realistic driving physics, accessible performance on modest hardware, and a dedicated community, the game has maintained a strong player base despite newer entries in the genre.

Community Uncovers Quiet Shutdown

The shutdown first came to light through a thread on PSNProfiles, where user HuntingFever reported that the PS4 servers had gone offline sometime between mid-May and early June 2025. Other users confirmed the findings, noting that preset lobbies had disappeared and connections were no longer possible. One player mentioned they were still able to access online play on the Korean version as recently as June 3, suggesting the closure may have rolled out in stages across regions.

Further evidence was found on the Japanese PlayStation Store, which now displays a warning: “The online service of this work has ended. Content that currently uses the network function is not available, so please be careful when purchasing.” At the time of writing, this notice appears only on the Japanese store, likely due to stricter consumer protection laws requiring disclosure when online features become unavailable.

Concerns for Other Platforms

The unexpected nature of the shutdown has led to speculation that similar closures could soon affect the Xbox and PC versions of the game. No official statement has been issued by Kunos Simulazioni or its publisher regarding future plans for the remaining platforms, leaving fans in limbo.

Although offline single-player content remains fully functional, the loss of online features means that players can no longer compete in multiplayer races or earn certain trophies tied to those modes. Achievement hunters, in particular, expressed disappointment at no longer being able to fully complete the game on PS4.

A Troubling Trend

While server shutdowns for older titles have become commonplace, it is rare for a developer to disable online functionality without prior notice. Typically, companies announce end-of-service plans months in advance, allowing players to prepare and make the most of the remaining time.

The lack of transparency in this case has drawn criticism from the community and serves as a reminder of the risks inherent in online-dependent features — especially when paired with trophies or achievements that become unobtainable after servers go dark.

For now, Assetto Corsa remains playable offline on PS4 and other platforms, but fans will be watching closely for signs that further support for the game may be ending elsewhere as well.
