7 Days to Die VR Support Still in the Works After Full Release—But Mods Step In First

7 Days to Die, the popular zombie survival sandbox by The Fun Pimps, finally hit its long-awaited 1.0 release in June 2024. But while players are celebrating the official end of a decade-long Early Access run, one major promise from the original Kickstarter campaign is still missing: VR support.

Back in 2013, 7 Days to Die blew past its $300,000 Kickstarter stretch goal, which included Oculus Rift compatibility as part of the package. Over a decade later, that feature still hasn’t materialized in any official form. Despite this, The Fun Pimps have not walked back on their plans. According to community updates, VR support remains on the roadmap as a post-release feature.

“It’s still planned to be worked on after the game is finished,” a community moderator reaffirmed on the Steam forums in mid-2024.

For players who don’t want to wait any longer, there’s already an alternative. A fan-made VR mod called 7DVR brings the full survival horror experience into virtual reality—with 6DOF motion controls, immersive UI, and compatibility with major VR headsets. The mod has been regularly updated and now works with the game’s 1.0 release, offering a surprisingly polished experience that rivals official VR titles.

With the modding community continuing to push the boundaries, it’s clear that the demand for a proper 7 Days to Die VR experience hasn’t died off. Whether The Fun Pimps will deliver on that original vision remains to be seen—but for now, the community has taken the matter into its own hands.

Closing Thoughts:
While official VR support may still be on the horizon, it’s the dedication of the player base that’s keeping the dream alive. If you’re a VR enthusiast and 7 Days to Die fan, there’s never been a better time to grab a headset and dive into the apocalypse.
