The popular Warriors book franchise has finally received its first standalone PC and console game. Warrior Cats: Clans of the Forest launched on October 23, 2026, bringing the world of Erin Hunter’s bestselling novels to modern gaming platforms.
Developed by Bamtan Games and published by Trailmark Games, the new action RPG allows players to explore the Lake Territories, build their own feline characters, and experience original stories.
For longtime fans, this release represents an important milestone. After years of fan projects and Roblox slop adaptations, the franchise finally has a dedicated game that doesn’t rely on someone else’s user-generated content platform.
Warrior Cats Arrives on PC and Consoles
Warrior Cats: Clans of the Forest is available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC through Steam and the Epic Games Store.
The standard edition costs $29.99, while the $39.99 Feral Edition includes additional customization content through the Prophecy Pack.
The Prophecy Pack is also available separately for $14.99. It introduces extra Cat Creator options, accessories, a cel-shaded appearance, and additional photo-mode features.
The game attracted considerable attention before release. On October 22, it surpassed 200,000 Steam wishlists, suggesting strong interest among fans. However, publisher Trailmark Games has not disclosed official sales figures.
Four Clans, Four Different Adventures
Players can join one of four iconic clans from the Warriors universe:
- ThunderClan: One of the franchise’s most recognizable clans.
- RiverClan: Warriors associated with rivers and aquatic environments.
- ShadowClan: A clan known for its mysterious reputation.
- WindClan: Agile warriors associated with the open moorlands.
Each clan features an original storyline written specifically for the game by Erin Hunter.
Rather than simply adapting existing novels, the developers have introduced new adventures within the established universe.
Players can hunt, gather resources, complete quests, and defend their chosen clan against threats.
Exploration also includes environmental puzzles and light platforming, adding variety beyond traditional RPG combat.
Turn-Based Combat and Extensive Customization
Despite its colorful presentation, Warrior Cats: Clans of the Forest offers several gameplay systems.
Combat uses turn-based encounters featuring parties of up to three cats. Players can unlock 75 different moves, providing opportunities to experiment with combat strategies.
Character customization is another major feature.
According to the developers, the Cat Creator supports millions of possible combinations. Players can personalize their feline warriors through various appearance options.
The game also includes asynchronous multiplayer through Skirmish Mode.
This system allows players to challenge others without requiring both participants to be online simultaneously.
Additionally, players can visit friends’ camps, craft items, and leave resources behind.
Finally, Something Beyond Roblox
The Warriors franchise previously appeared in Roblox through projects such as Warrior Cats: Ultimate Edition. Another Roblox-based project, Lake Territory, remains in private beta.
However, those experiences rely on Roblox, a platform GamingHQ has repeatedly criticized for its ecosystem and the limitations surrounding user-generated experiences.
A franchise with more than 100 books deserves something better than being confined to a Roblox experience.
That is precisely why Warrior Cats: Clans of the Forest is a welcome development.
Instead of depending on Roblox’s infrastructure, players now have a standalone game with dedicated gameplay systems, original stories, and releases across major gaming platforms.
It also demonstrates that established franchises do not need Roblox to reach younger audiences or build interactive communities.
For GamingHQ, seeing developers invest in proper standalone releases rather than yet another Roblox slop adaptation is certainly a step in the right direction.
A Major Milestone for the Warriors Franchise
The Warriors series began in 2003 with Into the Wild, written under the collective pen name Erin Hunter.
Since then, the franchise has expanded to more than 100 books, attracting readers worldwide.
Despite its popularity, the series had never received a standalone PC and console release of this scale.
With Clans of the Forest, Bamtan Games and Trailmark Games are attempting to bring that universe to a broader gaming audience.
Whether the game becomes a long-term success remains uncertain. Its early wishlist numbers indicate interest, but actual sales and player reception will determine its future.
Nevertheless, the launch marks an important moment for fans who have waited years for a dedicated Warriors video game.
And perhaps most importantly, they can finally explore the world of their favorite feline warriors without having to launch the kids playground “Roblox”.
