CarX Players Report Major FPS Drops and GPU Usage Spikes

CarX players are running into frustrating performance problems, with major FPS drops and unusually high GPU usage affecting the experience. One of the biggest problems appears when entering tuning and customization garages, where GPU load can suddenly skyrocket.

The performance issues can occur even when the actual driving experience runs reasonably well. Moving into a garage, however, can result in significantly higher GPU utilization, increased temperatures, and unstable frame rates.

CarX Tuning Garages Are Surprisingly Heavy on the GPU

Garages are normally one of the least demanding areas players would expect to encounter in a racing game. There is no large open world to render, no traffic, and considerably less going on compared with driving at high speed.

Yet CarX appears to behave differently.

Entering a tuning garage can cause GPU utilization to jump dramatically. Depending on the system and graphics settings, this can also result in increased power consumption and temperatures.

At the same time, FPS can become inconsistent. Players may experience sudden frame drops, stuttering, or generally worse performance while navigating customization and tuning menus.

That makes the behavior particularly strange. A relatively small indoor environment can place more noticeable stress on the GPU than portions of the actual racing experience.

FPS Drops Are Hurting the Experience

The problems are not limited to GPU utilization.

Major FPS drops can occur throughout CarX, making otherwise smooth gameplay suddenly feel sluggish. Frame pacing can also become inconsistent, resulting in noticeable stuttering even when the average FPS initially appears acceptable.

Performance problems are especially frustrating in a racing game. Consistent frame rates and responsive controls are important when players need to react quickly, maintain a drift, or make small steering corrections.

A sudden performance drop can therefore have a much bigger impact than simply making the game look less smooth.

High-End Hardware Should Not Be the Only Solution

Throwing more powerful hardware at an optimization problem should never become the expected solution.

Players with capable gaming PCs should not need excessive amounts of GPU performance simply to sit inside a tuning garage. If GPU utilization increases substantially when entering these areas, it suggests that something behind the scenes may not be working as efficiently as it should.

Potential causes could range from lighting and reflections to uncapped rendering, shaders, vehicle materials, or other graphical effects. Without confirmation from the developers, however, the exact reason remains unclear.

What is clear is that the tuning garage deserves particular attention when investigating CarX’s current performance.

Optimization Should Become a Priority

CarX has plenty to offer players who enjoy cars, drifting, tuning, and customization, but inconsistent performance can quickly overshadow those strengths.

Optimization needs to remain a priority, especially when relatively simple areas are capable of pushing GPU usage far higher than expected.

The tuning garage is supposed to be where players spend time adjusting their cars, experimenting with setups, and customizing their builds. It should not be one of the places where their graphics card suddenly starts working overtime.

For now, players experiencing FPS drops may need to experiment with graphics settings, frame-rate limits, and other performance options. Ultimately, though, major GPU spikes and severe FPS drops are problems that should be addressed through proper optimization rather than relying on users to work around them.

CarX needs some tuning of its own.
