Project P.I.T.T. Review – Automation Is Fun Until the Game hits You in the Back

Project P.I.T.T. takes a simple idea and turns it into something surprisingly addictive. You are given a job, a bunch of tools, and one major objective: get production moving and figure out increasingly clever ways to automate the process.

That sounds straightforward. It isn’t.

A huge part of Project P.I.T.T. is experimentation. You place equipment, watch what happens, realize your brilliant idea is actually terrible, tear half of it apart, and try again. Eventually, though, everything starts working. Items move where they’re supposed to go, your contraption practically runs itself, and you can finally stand back and admire the ridiculous machine you’ve created.

That feeling is easily one of the game’s biggest strengths.

Automation Is Where Project P.I.T.T. Shines

The best moments come when you stop doing everything manually.

Early on, you’re actively involved in the production process, but it quickly becomes clear that the real challenge is finding ways to make the machinery do the work for you. Project P.I.T.T. gives you enough freedom to experiment instead of forcing one specific solution onto you.

That freedom makes successful automation extremely satisfying.

You might spend a considerable amount of time adjusting positions, changing how objects move through your setup, or completely rebuilding part of your production line. Then suddenly everything clicks.

Watching your creation finally work exactly as intended is incredibly rewarding.

It also creates that dangerous “just one more improvement” feeling. Even when something technically works, you start noticing little inefficiencies. Maybe an item occasionally misses its destination. Maybe part of the process could be faster. Maybe you could remove an entire manual step.

Before you know it, you’ve spent another hour redesigning something that was already functional.

Then a New Stage Arrives

Unfortunately, this is also where my biggest complaint with Project P.I.T.T. comes in.

Progressing to a new stage can force you to rethink your contraptions.

Normally, that wouldn’t necessarily be a bad thing. A game about automation should introduce new problems and encourage players to improve their designs. The issue is how often it can feel like the game punishes you for successfully solving the previous problem.

You spend your time finding a clever way to automate everything. You tweak it, improve it, and finally get the entire operation running smoothly.

Then you progress.

Suddenly, you’re reworking the contraption again.

It creates a strange relationship with progression because instead of always being excited about reaching the next stage, part of you starts wondering what the game is about to break this time.

Stage 4 Feels Like a Stab in the Back

Stage 4 is where that frustration really becomes noticeable.

By this point, you’ve already invested plenty of time into understanding the systems and finding ways to automate your workflow. You aren’t simply throwing random objects around anymore. You’re actively designing something that should reduce the amount of manual work required.

And then Stage 4 basically looks at all that effort and says:

“That’s cute.”

Back to work.

It feels like being stabbed in the back by the game after spending so much time trying to create an efficient system.

The frustrating part isn’t having to solve a new challenge. That’s exactly what Project P.I.T.T. should be doing. The problem is that your previous automation work can suddenly feel less valuable because you’re forced to redesign around another major change.

That can make elaborate builds feel somewhat temporary.

Why spend ages perfecting something when another stage might force you to tear half of it apart?

Thankfully, Rebuilding Is Still Fun

The reason this doesn’t hurt the score more is simple: building the contraptions is still enjoyable.

Even when Project P.I.T.T. forces you back to the drawing board, you’re still interacting with its strongest mechanics. Experimenting with different solutions remains entertaining, and there is usually another ridiculous idea worth trying.

The physics also help make failures entertaining rather than purely frustrating.

Something going horribly wrong can be almost as enjoyable as watching a perfect production line operate. Half the fun comes from seeing whether your questionable engineering solution actually works.

Sometimes it does.

Sometimes everything goes flying.

Either way, you’re probably going to try again.

Simple Concept, Addictive Execution

Project P.I.T.T. doesn’t need an enormous collection of complicated systems to keep you playing. Its strength comes from taking a relatively straightforward concept and giving players enough freedom to approach problems their own way.

The progression keeps introducing reasons to experiment, while automation gives you something meaningful to work toward.

It becomes less about simply completing the required task and more about asking yourself:

“How can I make this thing do everything for me?”

That is exactly the kind of question a good automation game should make you ask.

There is always another adjustment you can make, another shortcut you can attempt, or another completely unnecessary contraption you can build simply because you want to see whether it works.

Verdict

Project P.I.T.T. is a surprisingly addictive combination of physics, experimentation, and automation.

Finding increasingly clever ways to automate production is easily the highlight. Watching a contraption that you designed finally operate without constant intervention gives the game an extremely satisfying gameplay loop.

My only real complaint is how progression can force you to repeatedly rework those creations. After spending a long time perfecting an automated setup, reaching a new stage can feel less like a reward and more like the game deciding it’s time to ruin your carefully constructed plans.

Stage 4 is probably the biggest offender. You spend all that time figuring out how to automate everything, only for the game to effectively stab you in the back and send you straight back to redesigning.

Thankfully, Project P.I.T.T. is fun enough that rebuilding rarely makes you want to stop playing.

Instead, you complain about it for a minute…

and then start building an even more ridiculous machine.
