Borderlands 4 Players Unlock Exclusive C4SH Skin Through Community Event

The latest community challenge in Borderlands 4 has officially concluded, rewarding players with a new cosmetic for the recently introduced Vault Hunter, C4SH.

Following the release of the Mad Ellie and the Vault of the Damned DLC roughly two weeks ago, players quickly jumped into testing builds and pushing the new character to its limits. As part of a global challenge, the community was tasked with defeating bosses while using C4SH — and the results exceeded expectations.

Despite the timing over a holiday weekend, players collectively defeated 524,912 bosses, successfully completing the challenge and unlocking an exclusive reward.

Free Shift Code Reward Now Available

To celebrate the milestone, Gearbox Software has released a Shift Code that grants players a unique skin for C4SH.

The reward, titled “Like Vermillion Bucks,” is now redeemable both in-game and via the official Shift system.

This code will remain active until December 31, 2030, giving players plenty of time to claim it.

Alongside this reward, several additional Shift Codes are currently active, offering more cosmetic items and packs tied to the ongoing DLC cycle. This continued support highlights Gearbox’s focus on keeping players engaged through long-term incentives rather than short-lived events.

DLC Reception: Strong Gameplay, Weak Value?

While the introduction of C4SH has been widely praised — particularly for flexible builds and engaging action skills — the DLC itself has sparked mixed reactions within the community.

At a price point of $30, on top of the base game’s $70 cost, many players feel the expansion falls short in terms of content.

Key concerns include:

  • A small playable region, reportedly smaller than the game’s opening area
  • A short main story, averaging around 2 to 3 hours
  • A limited number of new missions and weapons

For some, the addition of a new Vault Hunter isn’t enough to justify the price, especially when compared to previous entries in the franchise that offered larger expansions with more substantial content.

Gearbox Doubles Down on Long-Term Engagement

Despite the criticism, Gearbox’s strategy appears clear. By combining community-driven challenges with long-lasting rewards like Shift Codes, the developer is leaning into sustained player engagement rather than one-off content drops.

The extended expiration dates — stretching all the way to 2030 — reinforce this approach, ensuring that both new and returning players can benefit from these rewards over time.

Whether this model will outweigh concerns about DLC pricing and scope remains to be seen, but for now, players have at least one more reason to jump back in and claim their rewards.
