Respawn has once again pulled Storm Point from the map rotation in Apex Legends, less than two weeks after its return. The decision follows ongoing crash issues that impacted both public matches and Ranked play, forcing the studio to act quickly to stabilize the game.
The removal took place on April 3 and is currently labeled as temporary. However, no timeline has been provided for when Storm Point will return, leaving players uncertain about when the map will be playable again.
Mid-Season Update Disrupted by Technical Problems
Storm Point’s return was part of the Split 2 update for Season 28, which introduced several balance changes and a reshuffled map rotation.
The update included buffs to key Legends such as Wraith, Gibraltar, and Wattson, alongside notable changes to the map pool. Broken Moon and E-District were originally removed in favor of Olympus and Storm Point, while World’s Edge remained unchanged.
This rotation was intended to refresh gameplay variety, but the reintroduction of Storm Point quickly led to instability issues that overshadowed the update.
Map Rotation Adjusted Again
With Storm Point now removed, Respawn has reinserted E-District into the rotation to maintain the standard map pool size.
As a result, Olympus stands as the only new addition compared to Split 1, reducing the overall impact of the mid-season rotation changes. The quick reversal has led to a more familiar—and for some, repetitive—map lineup.
Community Reaction Remains Divided
The community response has been mixed. A portion of players welcomed the removal, prioritizing stability over map variety and expressing frustration with recurring crashes.
Others, however, criticized the lack of diversity in the current rotation. Some players questioned why Kings Canyon was not reintroduced instead of E-District, arguing it would have offered a more meaningful change.
The situation highlights an ongoing challenge for Respawn: balancing technical stability with player expectations for fresh and varied content.
Aftershock Event Continues Rolling Out
Alongside the map changes, Respawn has launched the Aftershock Event, bringing updates to Wildcard Mode and introducing new gameplay elements.
One of the standout additions is the Vortex Shield, a mechanic that allows players to catch and return incoming bullets, adding a new layer of strategy to fights.
The event also introduces new cosmetic content, including the Apex Inferno Prestige Skin for Fuse, giving players additional progression incentives during this period.
What Comes Next for Storm Point
Respawn has confirmed that Storm Point will remain out of rotation until a permanent fix for the crashing issues is implemented. While the studio has shared a broader roadmap for the year, no specific details have been provided regarding the timeline for resolving the problem.
For now, players can expect continued updates and events while waiting for Storm Point’s eventual return—hopefully in a more stable state.
