The recent re-release of Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness on Nintendo Switch 2 is already facing serious technical problems, with players reporting frequent crashes and, more concerningly, complete save-data loss.
Originally launched in 2005 on the GameCube, the cult-favorite spin-off returned on March 18, 2026 through the Nintendo Classics service. While the return of the Orre region was welcomed by long-time fans, the current state of the game is quickly overshadowing that excitement.
Crashes Leading to Lost Progress
Reports from players indicate that the game can unexpectedly crash during gameplay, sometimes closing entirely. In several cases, these crashes have resulted in save files being erased—even after players used the in-game save system.
This issue is particularly severe given the game’s length. With a main story that can take around 30 hours to complete, losing hours of progress is a major setback and has already discouraged some players from continuing their playthroughs.
What makes the situation more frustrating is that the original GameCube version did not suffer from these problems, raising concerns about the quality of the re-release.
