Blizzard Targets Balance Before Season 1 Launch

Midnight Season 1 launches with a large-scale class tuning pass aimed at stabilizing gameplay across raids, Mythic+, Delves, and PvP from day one.

The update focuses on reducing overperforming specs while boosting weaker ones, ensuring a more balanced and competitive environment at launch. Blizzard has also confirmed that this is only the first wave, with additional tuning expected based on PTR feedback and live data.

Heavy Nerfs Hit Dominant Specs

Several top-performing specs are being scaled back to prevent early meta dominance.

Unholy Death Knight receives a flat 20 percent reduction to overall damage. While Epidemic and Virulent Plague are increased, these adjustments only partially offset the nerf, resulting in a clear drop in overall performance.

Guardian Druid takes a significant hit, with most ability damage reduced by 20 percent. Moonfire is separately reduced by 10 percent, further lowering sustained output.

Restoration Druid also sees a reduction, with total healing decreased by 6 percent, slightly weakening its reliability in high-end content.

Strong Buffs Push Other Specs Forward

At the same time, Blizzard is strengthening underperforming specs with targeted buffs.

Retribution Paladin receives major single-target improvements. Final Verdict damage is increased by 30 percent, while overall melee and talent-based output is boosted by around 25 percent. Divine Storm AOE damage is reduced by 12 percent to keep multi-target performance in check.

The Blood Deathbringer tree also gains significant power, with key abilities increased by around 20 percent alongside additional damage improvements across the kit.

New Spec and Talent Changes

Midnight Season 1 also introduces changes that impact class identity and playstyles.

Devourer Demon Hunter is confirmed as a new ranged hybrid spec combining Void-based abilities with weapon mechanics. Its tuning includes minor reductions, while other Demon Hunter specs receive buffs to maintain balance.

Apex Talents are being adjusted across multiple classes.

Preservation Evoker sees changes to Merithra’s Blessing and Dream Breath, refining healing output.

Survival Hunter receives a buff to Raptor Swipe, improving damage consistency.

Protection Warrior undergoes a Phalanx rework along with adjustments to Wave of Force, reshaping its toolkit.

System-Wide Adjustments and PvP Changes

Beyond individual specs, Blizzard is making broader system changes.

Shaman receives buffs across all specs, improving overall viability.

Warlock, including Demonology, sees talent redistribution to improve scaling and reduce uneven performance spikes.

Hero Talents are adjusted across several classes to better align with intended playstyles.

Piercing Howl cooldown is increased to 90 seconds, reducing its frequency and impact.

Additional PvP-specific tuning is being applied across multiple classes to improve balance heading into Season 1.

Season 1 Meta Outlook

This tuning pass is designed to reset the meta before Midnight Season 1 begins.

Overperforming specs are brought back in line, weaker ones are strengthened, and new adjustments aim to create a more stable environment across all content types.

Players should expect further tuning during the first weeks of the season as Blizzard reacts to real gameplay data.
