Breath of the Wild 1.9.0 Update Rolls Out on Switch and Switch 2

Nintendo has quietly deployed Version 1.9.0 for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild across both Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 systems. While the patch does not introduce new content, it expands language accessibility and delivers general gameplay improvements as the title continues to receive long-term support nearly a decade after launch.

Originally released in 2017, Breath of the Wild marked a defining moment for Nintendo’s hybrid console era. With continued hardware transitions and the recent arrival of Switch 2 editions of Nintendo’s flagship titles, updates like this ensure stability and compatibility across platforms.

Thai Text Support Added on Switch 2

The most visible change in Version 1.9.0 applies to Nintendo Switch 2 users. The update adds Thai text support when the system language is set to “Thai/English.”

Voice audio, however, remains in English. Players who select the in-game “Match System Settings” option will retain English voiceovers even when Thai text is enabled.

While modest in scope, the addition represents a continued expansion of regional language support for one of Nintendo’s most globally recognized releases.

General Gameplay Improvements

Beyond the language update, Nintendo’s official patch notes state that “several issues have been addressed to improve the gameplay experience.”

No technical breakdown was provided, leaving it unclear whether the changes focus on performance stability, minor bug fixes, backend optimizations, or smaller gameplay corrections. As with previous understated updates, community testing will likely surface additional details in the coming days.

Tears of the Kingdom Receives Specific Bug Fix

Alongside the Breath of the Wild update, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom has been updated to Version 1.4.3.

This patch corrects a progression issue involving a Black Hinox at Hyrule Castle. Previously, the enemy could appear undefeated even after being defeated, preventing players from obtaining the Hinox Monster Medal. The issue has now been resolved.

Continued Support Ahead of a Milestone Year

With the Zelda franchise approaching its 40th anniversary in 2026, Nintendo’s continued updates to both Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom signal sustained platform support across console generations.

Version 1.9.0 may be a relatively small update, but it reinforces Nintendo’s commitment to maintaining its flagship titles as the ecosystem transitions further into the Switch 2 era.
