Treyarch Confirms Aim Assist Buffs Ahead of Black Ops 7 Season 1

Treyarch Studios has confirmed it is preparing another round of Aim Assist adjustments for Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, specifically increasing Aim Assist strength at longer ranges. The update is planned to arrive ahead of Season 1, though the studio has not announced a specific release date.

The announcement was made during a new developer talk featuring design director Matt Scronce, who explained that while the team is generally satisfied with the current Aim Assist system, player feedback since launch has highlighted areas where improvements are needed. Scronce described the upcoming adjustments as “very nuanced changes” aimed at smoothing out long-range combat for controller players.

Aim Assist Will Be Stronger at Range

Scronce stated that many players felt Aim Assist dropped off too heavily when engaging distant targets. The planned update will introduce a slight increase in strength over range to give controller users more consistency without making Aim Assist overpowering.

This comes shortly after Treyarch modified Rotational Aim Assist just before launch. Previously, full Rotational Aim Assist triggered regardless of the player’s movement inputs. After the update, the system now requires right-stick movement that actively tracks an enemy for full strength to apply. The goal was to reward intentional tracking instead of passive rotational assistance.

Treyarch has not confirmed when the new changes will go live, but Scronce emphasized that players can expect them before Season 1 begins. Current community estimates suggest an early December start for the season.

Nuketown 2025 Added With Dedicated Playlist

Alongside the Aim Assist news, Treyarch rolled out a notable update earlier today: the addition of Nuketown 2025, complete with its own 24/7 playlist.

This faithful remake of the iconic Black Ops 2 map has been updated with slight aesthetic adjustments to match Black Ops 7’s style. It now joins other returning classics such as Raid, Hijacked, and Express, forming a growing list of fan-favorite battlegrounds remastered for the newest entry in the series.

SMG Buffs Incoming, Other Weapon Classes Under Review

The developer talk also included key insights into upcoming weapon balancing:

Submachine Guns

Treyarch confirmed a buff across the board for all SMGs. The studio is also reviewing specific attachments tied to recoil management and effective range. The goal is to make SMGs more competitive without overwhelming other weapon categories.

Marksman Rifles & Sniper Rifles

No immediate nerfs or buffs are planned. Scronce noted that these weapons should become “more present, without being too dominant,” and the team is closely monitoring performance data before making decisions.

Shotguns

Similar to Marksman and Sniper Rifles, there are currently no planned adjustments. However, data is being actively reviewed to ensure the weapons remain balanced and do not drift into overpowered territory.
