Twitch content creator Emiru confirmed during a recent livestream that she has officially filed a police report and is pressing criminal charges against the man who assaulted her at TwitchCon 2025 in San Diego. The incident occurred during a meet-and-greet session, prompting Emiru to urge fellow creators to reconsider attending any future TwitchCon events.
Assault During Meet-and-Greet at TwitchCon San Diego
The assault took place on October 17, the opening day of TwitchCon 2025, held at the San Diego Convention Center.
According to footage shared by attendees, the assailant breached multiple barriers before grabbing Emiru during her public appearance. The man’s identity has not been publicly disclosed, but he was banned from both Twitch and TwitchCon following the incident.
Twitch later confirmed it was working with law enforcement and cooperating fully in the ongoing investigation. However, the platform’s response has faced criticism from both Emiru and the broader creator community.
Emiru Condemns Twitch’s Security and Response
During her October 18 livestream, Emiru expressed frustration over how Twitch and its event staff handled the situation. She said she was deeply disappointed by the lack of immediate intervention, stating that she “could have literally been stabbed” before anyone stepped in.
Emiru also disputed Twitch’s public statement claiming that the response was swift, calling it “a blatant lie.” She revealed that her management had to push Twitch to take disciplinary action against the assailant, who initially managed to walk away from the scene before being apprehended.
Following the assault, Emiru announced that this would be her final TwitchCon appearance and encouraged other content creators to prioritize their safety over participation in the convention.
Twitch Responds After Backlash
Twitch CEO Dan Clancy addressed the incident publicly, emphasizing that the safety of creators and fans remains a top priority. Clancy acknowledged that despite increased security measures, “challenges can still arise,” and pledged to review safety protocols moving forward.
While Clancy refrained from detailing any new security strategies, he stated that Twitch is working directly with creators to improve event safety and provide better support systems in the future.
Emiru, however, has not responded to Clancy’s remarks and has maintained her stance on avoiding future TwitchCon appearances.
A Pattern of Harassment
This was not the first time Emiru has been publicly harassed. Earlier this year, she and other streamers were confronted by a fan during the Sis-A-Thon event in March. The TwitchCon incident has reignited discussions around creator safety, especially for women in the streaming industry, and the need for stronger protections at public conventions.
