One dedicated Battlefield 6 player has brought back the fan-favorite Noshahr Canals map from Battlefield 3 using the game’s powerful Portal toolset. The recreation has quickly caught the attention of the community, evoking strong nostalgia among long-time fans of the series.
Since its release, Battlefield 6 has achieved remarkable success, boasting massive concurrent player numbers and strong sales for EA within its first week. While the base game already offers a robust mix of single-player and multiplayer content, it’s the upgraded Portal mode that has players the most excited about the game’s long-term potential.
The Power of Battlefield 6’s Portal
Originally introduced in Battlefield 2042, Portal has received significant enhancements in Battlefield 6, allowing players even greater creative freedom. The mode enables fans to design and share their own experiences using maps, weapons, and rulesets from across the Battlefield franchise.
Creators have already used the tool to remake famous locations from other games, including Call of Duty’s Shipment map. Recently, a creator known as Matavatar impressed fans by recreating Battlefield 3’s iconic Noshahr Canals, one of the most beloved maps in franchise history.
Matavatar’s Impressive Recreation
According to Matavatar, the project took a considerable amount of time due to the limited assets available in Portal. The recreation uses one of Battlefield 6’s New York maps as a foundation, carefully designed to capture the industrial atmosphere of the original Noshahr Canals.
While the map is not yet available for public play, the showcase video has been met with widespread praise from fans. Matavatar noted that they referenced Battlefield 2042’s version of Noshahr Canals during the build, using the engineer Lis and her G-84 TGM shoulder launcher for testing because of its built-in rangefinder.
XP Farming and Portal Concerns
Despite its creative success, Portal has faced some controversy. Players have been exploiting the mode to set up XP farming servers, echoing similar issues from Battlefield 2042. These activities have occasionally caused server capacity errors and drawn the attention of DICE developers.
Fortunately, the studio has acknowledged the problem and announced plans to adjust XP progression systems in Battlefield 6. The goal is to reduce the need for XP farms while maintaining Portal as a space for genuine creativity and innovation.
Looking Ahead
Matavatar’s recreation of Noshahr Canals serves as a perfect example of how Battlefield 6’s Portal mode can preserve and celebrate the series’ legacy while encouraging community-driven creativity. With continued support from DICE and EA, Portal could become one of the most enduring and beloved features in the Battlefield franchise’s modern era.
