Login and Status Pages Unreachable
Players around the world are currently unable to log into Minecraft, as both Mojang’s authentication servers and Microsoft’s login systems are experiencing widespread outages. The issue began earlier today and is impacting users across Europe and other regions attempting to access their accounts through the Minecraft Launcher or connect to online servers.
When trying to sign in, players are greeted with the message:
“Failed to log in: The authentication servers are currently not reachable. Please try again.”
The problem doesn’t appear to be isolated to Minecraft alone. Allestoringen (by Ookla) shows a sharp rise in reports for Microsoft 365, Microsoft Store, and Minecraft, confirming a network-wide authentication disruption affecting multiple services tied to Microsoft’s ecosystem.
Microsoft’s Identity Network Appears to Be the Source
This outage seems to stem from Microsoft’s Entra ID and Xbox Live services, which handle account authentication for both Minecraft: Java Edition and Bedrock Edition. When these identity systems go offline, the Mojang authentication endpoints fail to verify users, resulting in login errors and unreachable status pages.
The official Minecraft.net and Xbox status websites are currently slow to respond or completely unavailable, further confirming that Microsoft’s backend infrastructure is under strain.
Possible Large-Scale or Coordinated Attack
While Microsoft has not issued an official statement yet, the outage coincides with a week of widespread service disruptions across major gaming platforms, including Steam, PlayStation Network, and Epic Games. Industry watchers suspect that a large-scale DDoS campaign could be targeting online gaming services.
What Players Can Do
At the moment, players are advised not to log out of active Minecraft sessions, as reauthentication will fail until services are restored. Single-player and offline modes remain accessible, but multiplayer logins will not work until Microsoft resolves the issue.
Switching DNS providers or restarting the launcher will not fix the issue, as the problem is on Microsoft’s side. Players are encouraged to monitor the Minecraft and Xbox Support channels once they become reachable again for official updates.
Outlook
These types of authentication outages are typically resolved within one to two hours, but the scale of this incident suggests it may take longer to stabilize. Once Microsoft restores full authentication functionality, players should be able to re-login without needing to take additional steps.
Until then, it’s safe to assume the Minecraft login outage is global, affecting both Mojang and Microsoft services simultaneously.
