Roblox Disables All Unrated Games to Standardize Age Ratings

Roblox has officially disabled all unrated experiences on its platform as of September 30, 2025. The move marks the latest step in Roblox Corporation’s broader effort to improve child safety and provide clearer content guidelines for parents and players.

The decision follows Roblox’s early September announcement of a new partnership with the International Age Rating Coalition (IARC). The collaboration is designed to standardize age ratings across the platform, offering a more consistent framework for determining the appropriateness of experiences. Previously, users 13 and older could access unrated games after confirming their age, but that option has now been removed.

Unrated Games Aren’t Gone Forever

While the crackdown is comprehensive, Roblox has clarified that it is not deleting unrated experiences outright. Instead, creators are required to assign an age rating before their games can be reinstated. Through the Creator Hub, developers can access the “Maturity and Compliance” questionnaire found in the Audience section of the Overview page. Completing this process automatically generates a maturity label, allowing the game to return to public access.

This ensures that creators still have full control over their projects, provided they take the necessary steps to comply with the updated rating system.

Roblox Preserves Classics From Inactive Creators

The biggest challenge comes with older games whose developers are no longer active. To prevent well-loved experiences from being lost, Roblox staff members have committed to rating legacy titles that achieved at least 1,000 lifetime visits. This preservation effort began in late August 2025 and is ongoing.

According to Roblox, the process is a “significant undertaking that will take time,” as staff must carefully evaluate each eligible game. No completion timeline has been provided, but the goal is to safeguard the platform’s most popular classics from being permanently disabled.

Strengthening Child Safety Across Roblox

The removal of unrated experiences is only one part of Roblox’s broader strategy to protect younger audiences. In recent months, the company has also introduced stricter policies around mature content, ensuring it no longer appears in search results and raising the access restriction from 17+ to 18+.

By enforcing stricter age ratings and preserving older classics responsibly, Roblox is taking a more proactive role in shaping a safer and clearer gaming environment for its millions of global players.
