A South Jersey mother and daughter have filed a lawsuit in Camden County Superior Court against Roblox Corporation, alleging that the platform facilitated the sexual exploitation of the now 14-year-old girl when she was just 11.
The lawsuit claims Roblox created an unsafe environment where an adult, posing as a child, was able to target the girl. According to the complaint, the abuse began on Roblox and later continued on Discord, where graphic messages and sexual images were exchanged.
Attorney Sara Beller of Dolman Law Group, representing the family, sharply criticized Roblox’s approach to child safety.
“Simply put, Roblox prioritizes profits over people. They prioritize growth over the safety and well-being of our children,” Beller said.
Allegations of Misrepresentation
The lawsuit argues that Roblox misrepresents its safety protocols to parents and children, creating what Beller described as “a playground for pedophiles.” She emphasized that Roblox is marketed as a safe space for kids while, in reality, predators can exploit its virtual environments.
As part of its investigation, Dolman Law Group claims to have discovered disturbing Roblox “experiences” referencing controversial figures and pop culture. These included games titled “Diddy Party,” “Survive Diddy,” “JeffEpsteinSupporter,” and “Escape to Epstein Island.”
Roblox Responds
In a statement, Roblox defended its efforts to improve safety:
“Safety is a top priority and we are continually innovating new safety features—over 100 this year alone—that protect our users and empower parents and caregivers with greater control and visibility.”
Beller, however, questioned the company’s timing.
“They’re unfortunately just now starting to take steps to institute some safety measures. Why has it taken so long for this company to act?”
Broader Legal Pressure
The lawsuit seeks monetary compensation for the family and calls for systemic changes across platforms such as Roblox and Discord. According to Beller, her client has suffered life-altering psychological and emotional injuries as a result of the exploitation.
Discord did not provide comment when contacted. Notably, the state of New Jersey also filed a lawsuit against Discord earlier this year over similar concerns.
