Pokémon GO players in Bangkok are facing unexpected disruption during the ongoing City Safari: Bangkok event. Niantic has confirmed that gameplay in parts of the city has been temporarily suspended due to a sinkhole, leaving many fans unable to participate in one of the game’s major live events.
Disruption During City Safari
The City Safari events are being held across multiple cities worldwide, giving players increased spawn rates for a wide range of Pokémon, alongside exclusive Eevee evolutions wearing “Explorer’s Hats.” However, players in an unspecified area of Bangkok cannot currently access the game.
Niantic’s customer support announcement urged players in Bangkok to “exercise caution,” though it did not clarify how much of the city is affected or whether the overall event schedule will be altered.
Player Reactions
The suspension has led to frustration among attendees, especially those who traveled and paid to take part in the event. Many have called on Niantic to either extend or relocate the Bangkok event to ensure fair participation. At this time, no timeframe has been provided for when gameplay will resume in the affected areas.
What’s Next for Pokémon GO
Despite this setback, Niantic continues to roll out new content. The ongoing Tales of Transformation season has already introduced several new Pokémon, including Dudunsparce and Dynamax Duraludon, with more on the way. Early October will see the debut of Dipplin and Hydrapple from Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, while Mega Metagross is set to appear during a special Mega Raid Day.
For now, Bangkok-based players can only hope the situation is resolved swiftly, allowing them to rejoin the community in one of Pokémon GO’s biggest live events.
