Fans eager to see more of Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 won’t have to wait much longer, as the game’s worldwide reveal has been confirmed for August 19 during Gamescom Opening Night Live. The announcement comes via Gamescom host Geoff Keighley, who encouraged viewers to tune in to the show’s opening moments for the big unveiling.
The next entry in the long-running Black Ops series was teased back in June with a cryptic trailer during the Xbox Games Showcase. While that trailer confirmed the return of beloved characters like David Mason and Raul Menendez, details since then have been scarce — leaving many players speculating about the full scope of the game.
Treyarch and Raven Team Up for the Next Chapter
Following the record-breaking launch of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 last year, Activision is clearly intent on keeping momentum high. Once again developed primarily by Treyarch Studios, Black Ops 7 is also being co-developed by Raven Software, known for its work on Warzone.
According to Activision, the new title will serve as a direct sequel to Black Ops 2, set in the year 2035. The game is set to include a co-op campaign, a robust multiplayer suite, and round-based Zombies — staples of the Black Ops brand.
What to Expect at the Reveal
The Gamescom Opening Night Live event kicks off on August 19 at 2PM ET / 11AM PT / 8PM CEST. While Activision has not detailed exactly what will be shown, it is widely expected that gameplay footage will be included, especially given that Call of Duty titles typically launch in late October or early November.
Despite leaks earlier this year — including a slip by Treyarch in Black Ops 6 that revealed new images and information — Activision has been deliberate in clarifying what players can and can’t expect. For example, the studio confirmed Black Ops 7 will not feature wall-running or jetpacks, despite earlier datamined files suggesting otherwise. Instead, the game will build on the “omnimovement” system introduced in Black Ops 6, allowing fluid movement in any direction while keeping the action grounded.
Leaks Hint at New Modes
Leaked information suggests Black Ops 7 will introduce a new 20v20 multiplayer mode called Skirmish. This mode reportedly combines objective-based gameplay with large-team battles, where players capture points, destroy payloads, and complete dynamic objectives.
While Activision has not officially confirmed this mode, fans can likely expect more details during the Gamescom reveal.
Boots on the Ground, With a Twist
Activision has assured fans that Black Ops 7 remains a boots-on-the-ground shooter, continuing the series’ gritty and tactical identity even while pushing the movement system further. The omission of wall-running and jetpacks aligns with player feedback, keeping the focus on grounded combat in a near-future setting.
With just weeks to go until Gamescom, fans of the franchise have plenty to look forward to when the curtains finally lift on Call of Duty: Black Ops 7.
