Nintendo Switch Online services and several mobile titles, including Pokémon GO, are currently experiencing widespread connectivity issues due to a major outage at Google Cloud.
The disruption began around 3:30 PM Eastern, as first reported by Twitter user OatmealDome, who noted that a significant Google Cloud issue was impacting Nintendo’s online infrastructure. Games relying on Nintendo Switch Online, such as Mario Kart World and Splatoon 3, are presently unplayable for many players, while thousands have reported disconnection errors.
Over 14,000 users submitted outage reports to Down Detector regarding Nintendo services, while Pokémon GO saw nearly 4,000 reports tied to the same connectivity issue. The services affected are all hosted through Google Cloud, which is also used by various other platforms and services across the web.
While many multiplayer functions are down, not all Nintendo services are impacted. According to OatmealDome, the Nintendo eShop and online games like Tetris 99 remain operational and are not affected by the outage at this time.
Google acknowledged the incident in a public statement issued at 3:41 PM Eastern. The tech giant confirmed that engineers have identified the root cause and are actively working on mitigation efforts. However, a full resolution has not yet been achieved, and no estimated recovery time has been provided. The outage is affecting Google Cloud customers across multiple regions and sectors, including services that support AI systems, gaming infrastructure, and more.
Players are advised to wait until Google completes its restoration work before attempting to use Nintendo’s affected online services.
Stay tuned for further updates as the situation develops.
