Disney Dreamlight Valley is once again putting creative power in the hands of its players. Through June 9, fans can help design the next in-game companion by voting on its species, aesthetic, and clothing. This ongoing Community Companion Design Challenge has already locked in two choices: a baby dragon as the species and a cottagecore aesthetic.
Hosted via the game’s official website, the five-round voting event allows players to shape every aspect of the upcoming companion’s look and feel. The third round is currently underway, asking players to select neckwear or attire to fit the chosen theme. While the topics for rounds four and five remain a mystery, Gameloft has confirmed that player votes will directly determine the final result.
Companions Get More Meaningful with Friendship System Update
Starting June 18, alongside the launch of the Mysteries of Skull Rock update, companions in Dreamlight Valley will no longer be just cosmetic followers. The new update introduces companion friendship levels, allowing players to build stronger bonds and earn new rewards by spending time with their chosen creatures—similar to how villager friendships currently work.
This shift will give greater value to companion customization and make the outcome of the community vote even more meaningful.
