Resident Evil Requiem (Resident Evil 9) Officially Announced with 2026 Release Date

Capcom has officially unveiled Resident Evil Requiem—better known to fans as Resident Evil 9—confirming its release for February 27, 2026. The game is set to launch on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X, bringing an end to the series’ brief hiatus and marking the beginning of what’s expected to be another multi-year run of annual Resident Evil releases.

The Long-Awaited Reveal

While rumors about Resident Evil 9 have circulated for years, Capcom’s silence led many to believe the franchise had entered a prolonged break. After consistent releases from 2019 through 2023, there was no new title in 2024, and 2025 is expected to follow suit. However, insiders have long reported that Capcom was planning a return with a bang—Resident Evil 9 being the first in a new trilogy of releases set to span from 2026 onward.

With the curtain now lifted, Resident Evil Requiem is poised to be a major evolution for the franchise.

Grace Ashcroft Takes the Lead

The debut trailer introduces a new protagonist, FBI agent Grace Ashcroft, the daughter of Alyssa Ashcroft from Resident Evil: Outbreak. Grace is assigned to investigate a chilling crime scene at the very hotel where her mother was killed. As expected, things quickly spiral into chaos as a mysterious illness spreads and grotesque creatures begin to emerge.

The trailer offers only glimpses of gameplay, but one moment stands out—a brief look at the ruined remains of Raccoon City, including a flash of the iconic Raccoon City Police Department (RPD) building. While the story remains shrouded in mystery, the tone and visuals suggest Requiem will embrace the series’ classic horror roots while introducing new twists.

Gameplay Details Still Under Wraps

Capcom has yet to confirm key gameplay elements. Persistent rumors have suggested Resident Evil 9 might be open-world, but no official details back that up. Similarly, it remains unclear whether the game will use the first-person perspective seen in Resident Evil 7 and Village, or return to the third-person viewpoint that longtime fans are more familiar with. Given the teaser’s cinematic framing and legacy callbacks, a third-person perspective seems more likely—but we’ll know more soon.

Playable Demo at Gamescom 2025

Capcom has confirmed that Resident Evil 9 will be playable at Gamescom, which kicks off in August. Fans can expect an in-depth look at the game during Gamescom Opening Night Live, scheduled for August 19, 2025. With the game’s release still over half a year away, the Gamescom demo is likely to reveal significant gameplay details, combat mechanics, and more on the game’s setting and lore.
