Neil Druckmann Confirms Naughty Dog Is Developing a Second New IP Alongside Intergalactic

Neil Druckmann has revealed that Naughty Dog is currently working on not one, but two AAA projects — one of which remains unannounced.

Naughty Dog co-president and The Last of Us creator Neil Druckmann has confirmed in a recent interview that the studio is actively developing a second new IP alongside the previously revealed Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet. Speaking on the Press X to Continue podcast with Steffan Powell, Druckmann explained that while his main focus remains on Intergalactic, he’s also serving in a more executive, producer-like capacity for this mysterious new title.

A New Direction for Druckmann

Druckmann’s approach marks a notable shift from his earlier statements. Back in February, he emphasized that game development is “all-consuming” and said he preferred to direct one project at a time. Yet, with multiple creative roles across Naughty Dog, HBO’s The Last of Us series, and now two separate game projects, it’s clear he’s pushing beyond his previous limits.

Despite the packed schedule, Druckmann appears to be balancing his duties carefully, noting that Intergalactic is being directed by a team rather than a single individual — a move that frees him to contribute to other ventures while still maintaining creative oversight.

What Is Naughty Dog’s Unannounced Game?

Although Druckmann stopped short of offering details about the second IP, rumors have quickly gained traction. According to industry insider Daniel Richtman, this unannounced title has been in development for over three years and may be helmed by Shaun Escayg, the director behind Uncharted: The Lost Legacy.

This has fueled speculation that the mystery project could be tied to the Uncharted universe, potentially as a spin-off or soft reboot of the beloved action-adventure franchise. Escayg’s previous involvement with Uncharted only strengthens that theory.

If the rumors are true, fans might not have to wait long. Naughty Dog announced Intergalactic nearly four years after development began — and with the new IP reportedly entering its fourth year, an announcement could be imminent at Summer Game Fest or another major 2025 event.

What’s Next for Naughty Dog?

With Druckmann confirming the existence of this second IP and hinting at a more public reveal in the near future, it’s clear that Naughty Dog is preparing for a major next chapter. Between Intergalactic, the ongoing success of HBO’s The Last of Us, and now this unannounced title, the studio remains one of the most ambitious forces in gaming.

Still, as with all rumors, it’s worth waiting for official confirmation. Until then, fans can only speculate — and hope that the future includes both The Last of Us Part III and a return to the world of Uncharted.
