EA Lays Off Hundreds, Cancels New Titanfall Game in Surprise Restructuring

Electronic Arts has announced significant layoffs, cutting approximately 5% of its global workforce. The restructuring impacts multiple internal teams, including Respawn Entertainment, the developer behind the Titanfall and Apex Legends franchises. As part of these changes, a previously unannounced Titanfall game has been canceled.

Insiders reveal that this canceled project was still in early development and was expected to feature a single-player experience, potentially expanding the universe of Apex Legends. This marks yet another blow to fans of the Titanfall series, who have long hoped for a full-fledged return.

About 100 employees from Respawn are said to be affected by the layoffs. Despite these cuts, the studio will continue to focus on ongoing support for Apex Legends and the Star Wars Jedi series, which remain key pillars in EA’s portfolio.

EA describes the layoffs as part of a broader realignment strategy, aiming to prioritize fewer, more impactful titles while pulling back from riskier early-stage projects. The publisher has faced mounting financial pressure over the past year, and this move signals a shift toward consolidating resources around its most successful properties.

Fans of the Titanfall universe may now need to come to terms with the reality that a proper sequel isn’t on the horizon anytime soon — if ever.
