Sometimes you come across a game where the title tells you almost everything you need to know. Cheese, Please! is one of those games.
It has cheese, fluffy cats. It has a ridiculous amount of stuff flying across the screen. Honestly, that’s already a pretty decent combination.
Developed by Diggy Ducks and published by Molter Games, Cheese, Please! is an upcoming bullet-hell roguelite mixed with incremental progression. The game is heading to Steam, with a free demo already available for anyone curious enough to see what happens when cheese becomes the most valuable resource in space.
The Cats Have the Cheese
The setup is deliberately silly.
You’re travelling through space looking for cheese hidden inside asteroids. Crack them open, grab what you can and try to make it home without getting turned into space dust.
There is just one problem. The Cat Empire isn’t exactly happy about you taking its cheese.
That means each trip quickly turns into a fight for survival, with enemies filling the screen and forcing you to dodge incoming attacks while continuing to collect whatever you can.
The further you manage to push, the more valuable your haul becomes. Getting back safely allows that cheese to be spent on permanent upgrades, making the next attempt a little easier.
Or at least that’s the idea.
More Cheese, More Upgrades
Cheese, Please! isn’t built around completely starting from scratch every time you die.
Collected cheese feeds into permanent progression, while a large skill tree lets players gradually improve their chances during future runs. There are also plenty of weapons, perks and other upgrades to mess around with.
The Armory and Galatech systems add even more ways to improve a build, so there should be plenty of room to experiment rather than chasing the exact same setup every run.
Then there are the cats.
Apparently defeating the Cat Empire isn’t enough, because you can also capture enemy cats and use them to unlock unique upgrades.
We have questions.
Bullet Hell Eventually Means Bullet Hell
Things don’t stay friendly for very long.
As runs progress, enemies become more dangerous and the screen starts filling with increasingly complicated projectile patterns. Boss fights push that even further, meaning players will need to pay attention to positioning instead of relying entirely on whatever overpowered combination they’ve managed to put together.
That should give Cheese, Please! a nice balance between long-term progression and actually getting better at surviving its combat.
A massive damage upgrade is great.
Not standing directly inside 400 incoming projectiles is probably better.
The Demo Is Already Available
Cheese, Please! is currently planned to launch on Steam in Q1 2027, but you don’t have to wait until then to find out whether stealing intergalactic cheese is your thing.
A free playable demo is available on Steam right now.
It’s certainly one of the stranger roguelites we’ve come across recently, but that’s also part of the appeal. There are already plenty of games about saving kingdoms, defeating ancient gods and preventing the end of the universe.
Sometimes you just want the cheese.
