The extraction shooter genre is already packed with games fighting for players’ attention, but Beautiful Light is hoping to stand out with artifacts, anomalies, tactical combat, and an unusual asymmetrical multiplayer system.
Developer Deep Worlds is currently targeting December 2026 for the Steam Early Access release of Beautiful Light. A final release date has not yet been announced, and the studio is reportedly keeping the launch of GTA 6 in mind when deciding exactly when to pull the trigger.
Beautiful Light Is More Than Another Extraction Shooter
Beautiful Light is an objective-based tactical extraction shooter built around securing mythical artifacts.
Instead of simply entering a map, grabbing whatever loot you can find, and escaping, players will compete over a limited number of valuable artifacts scattered throughout each match.
These artifacts aren’t just expensive items waiting to be extracted. Each one can provide unique gameplay effects, potentially giving its holder an advantage during a match.
There is a catch, though.
Getting your hands on an artifact also paints a massive target on your squad. Rival teams will want it, meaning successfully finding an artifact could only be the beginning of the fight.
PvPvPvE With Playable Anomalies
Beautiful Light uses an asymmetrical PvPvPvE structure.
Players can enter matches as a squad of three, as a duo, or completely alone. Human operators aren’t the only danger waiting inside the map either.
Hostile creatures known as anomalies roam the environment and can turn an already dangerous firefight into complete chaos.
Even more interestingly, players can occasionally enter matches as the anomalies themselves.
Instead of hunting artifacts and attempting to extract, these players can sabotage human operators and make their missions considerably more difficult.
It gives Beautiful Light an additional layer of unpredictability. That could help separate it from extraction shooters where enemy AI eventually becomes relatively easy to predict.
Tactical Gadgets Play a Major Role
Deep Worlds isn’t abandoning traditional tactical shooter mechanics.
Players will have access to familiar equipment and movement options, including:
- Leaning and peeking
- Night vision
- Gas masks
- Tactical lights
- A forearm-mounted PDA
That PDA could become one of Beautiful Light’s most recognizable mechanics.
Rather than relying entirely on a traditional game HUD, the PDA acts as an immersive interface for important information. Think of something along the lines of Fallout’s Pip-Boy, but designed around a much darker tactical extraction shooter.
The idea is to keep players informed without completely covering the screen in menus and floating interface elements.
Artifacts Could Keep Matches Interesting
The artifact system is arguably where Beautiful Light has the most potential.
A limited supply means squads cannot simply avoid one another forever. Players looking for the best rewards will eventually be pushed toward contested objectives.
Artifact effects could make those encounters even more unpredictable.
A squad carrying one may become more dangerous because of its benefits, while simultaneously becoming a priority target for everyone else nearby.
That creates a natural risk-versus-reward system without forcing every match to follow exactly the same route.
December 2026 Early Access Is the Target
Deep Worlds currently plans to launch Beautiful Light through Steam Early Access in December 2026.
The exact date is still being finalized.
Interestingly, the developer is also taking GTA 6’s launch into consideration. That’s probably not the worst idea. Launching a relatively unknown extraction shooter directly into one of the biggest gaming releases in years would be one hell of a way to make your marketing budget disappear.
Beautiful Light will also enter a market where developers are increasingly trying to put their own spin on extraction gameplay.
Games such as NightRunner, with its co-op PvE approach, and Anomalith are also looking beyond the standard extraction formula.
Beautiful Light’s answer appears to be a combination of tactical gunplay, supernatural threats, artifact objectives, immersive gadgets, and playable monsters.
Whether that combination is enough to survive the increasingly brutal extraction shooter market remains to be seen.
But with its December 2026 Early Access window approaching, Beautiful Light is certainly one worth keeping an eye on.
