Rockstar Games has revealed a massive Collector’s Box for Grand Theft Auto 6, giving hardcore fans plenty of Vice City and Leonida-themed merchandise to collect.
There is just one rather important thing missing.
Grand Theft Auto 6 itself.
The limited GTA 6 Collector’s Box costs $399.99, yet buyers will still need to purchase the actual game separately. Unsurprisingly, that decision has already become one of the biggest talking points surrounding the premium package.
With GTA 6 still scheduled to launch on November 19, 2026, Rockstar is clearly going all-in on merchandise surrounding what is expected to be one of the biggest entertainment releases of the year.
GTA 6 Collector’s Box Costs $399.99
The Collector’s Box is positioned as a premium merchandise package rather than a traditional Collector’s Edition of the game.
For $399.99, buyers receive a collection of items inspired by Leonida, Vice City and characters from GTA 6.

It is certainly a substantial collection of merchandise.
However, spending nearly $400 and opening the box without finding GTA 6 inside will understandably be difficult for some players to accept.
GTA 6 Is Sold Separately
Anyone buying the Collector’s Box will still need to purchase GTA 6 separately.
The Standard Edition costs $79.99, meaning someone wanting both the standard game and Collector’s Box would be spending approximately $479.98 before taxes.
There is also a $99.99 Ultimate Edition, which includes additional digital content and access to exclusive in-game stores and features.
Combining that version with the Collector’s Box pushes the total to $499.98 before taxes.
That puts the complete premium GTA 6 experience dangerously close to the $500 mark.
Is It Really a Collector’s Edition Without the Game?
This is where Rockstar’s approach becomes controversial.
Traditionally, expensive Collector’s Editions have been associated with receiving the game alongside statues, art books, maps, steelbooks and other physical bonuses.
The GTA 6 Collector’s Box instead treats the merchandise as an entirely separate product.
There are advantages to this approach. Players can choose whichever version of GTA 6 they want without being forced into a particular platform or edition.
Someone buying the box for PC, for example, would not be stuck with a PS5 or Xbox copy they cannot use.
However, $399.99 remains an enormous asking price for a merchandise package.
For that amount of money, expecting an actual copy of Grand Theft Auto 6 inside the box does not seem particularly unreasonable.
Physical GTA 6 Copies Also Come With a Catch
The Collector’s Box is not the only physical-media decision likely to cause discussion.
Physical GTA 6 packages reportedly contain a download code rather than a traditional game disc.
That means players purchasing a boxed version are still dependent on downloading the game rather than simply inserting a physical disc and installing directly from it.
For collectors and game-preservation supporters, that distinction matters.
A box containing a code does not provide the same long-term ownership benefits as a fully playable physical copy.
Considering GTA 6 is one of the most anticipated releases in gaming history, the lack of a traditional disc option will likely disappoint players who specifically collect physical games.
GTA 6 Remains Console-Only at Launch
Grand Theft Auto 6 launches on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S on November 19.
PC players will once again have to wait.
Rockstar has not announced an official PC release date, although current expectations point toward a later release, potentially beginning in 2027 at the earliest.
That also makes the decision to separate the Collector’s Box from the game slightly more understandable from a logistical perspective.
Rockstar can sell one universal Collector’s Box rather than manufacturing separate PS5, Xbox and eventual PC versions.
Whether players believe that convenience justifies the price is another matter entirely.
Nearly $500 for the Full Package
There is no denying that the GTA 6 Collector’s Box contains considerably more than a cheap statue and a few stickers.
Oakley sunglasses, a New Era hat, a figure, bag, map and numerous smaller collectibles make this a serious merchandise bundle aimed directly at dedicated GTA fans.
But $399.99 without the game is going to be a difficult number to ignore.
Add the Standard Edition and the total approaches $480. Add the Ultimate Edition instead and you are essentially looking at a $500 GTA 6 purchase.
For collectors, the exclusivity and variety of merchandise may still make the box attractive.
For everyone else, Rockstar may have accidentally created the most GTA-like transaction possible: you buy the expensive package first, then discover the thing you actually wanted costs extra.
Considering the enormous anticipation surrounding GTA 6, however, Rockstar probably will not struggle to find buyers.
The Collector’s Box is limited, and GTA merchandise has historically attracted dedicated collectors. Even with the game missing from the package, demand could still be significant.
One thing is certain: GTA 6 hasn’t even launched yet, and the debate over how much players are willing to spend has already begun.
