Steam users could have several new freebies to claim before September is over, although this month’s selection looks a little different from the usual free-to-keep promotions.
Instead of full games, current SteamDB listings point toward a collection of DLC, weapon packs, liveries, and other additional content becoming completely free during September 2026.
The most notable of these is Dying Light: The Beast — Discharge Weapon Pack, a normally paid DLC pack containing a new weapon and cosmetic charm.
However, there is an important catch: SteamDB listings can change before a promotion actually begins. Until the individual giveaways officially go live on Steam, none of the currently listed dates or promotions should be treated as guaranteed.
Dying Light: The Beast Gets a Free Weapon Pack
The biggest name among the currently tracked giveaways is Dying Light: The Beast.
SteamDB currently lists the Discharge Weapon Pack for a 100% discount as part of an upcoming Steam promotion. The DLC normally costs around $4.99 and contains two items:
- Discharge Machete
- VNC Weapon Charm
Once the promotion begins, players should be able to add the DLC permanently to their Steam accounts without paying for it.
As with most DLC promotions, players will still need the corresponding base game to actually use the content.
Dying Light: The Beast Brings Kyle Crane Back
The giveaway is relatively small, but it comes attached to one of Techland’s biggest recent releases.
Dying Light: The Beast launched in 2025 and marked the return of longtime protagonist Kyle Crane.
Interestingly, The Beast did not originally begin development as a completely separate game. Techland initially planned the project as additional content for Dying Light 2: Stay Human, before its scope expanded enough for the studio to turn it into its own release.
For existing players, the Discharge Weapon Pack is therefore a nice little bonus to add to the collection.
For everyone else, it isn’t a free copy of The Beast itself. You’ll still need to own the game before the weapon pack becomes particularly useful.
Three More Steam Freebies Are Being Tracked
Dying Light isn’t alone.
SteamDB currently shows at least three other DLC packs potentially receiving 100% discounts during September:
MXGP 26 – Scrubdesignz Liveries
The Scrubdesignz Liveries DLC for MXGP 26 is currently among the upcoming freebies.
As the name suggests, the pack adds additional liveries rather than providing the complete MXGP 26 game.
Gear.Club Unlimited 3 – Gear.Club Signature Pack
Gear.Club Unlimited 3 is also represented through its Gear.Club Signature Pack.
Again, this appears to be additional content rather than a giveaway of the full racing game.
Hunting Simulator 3 – Classic American Hunter Pack
Finally, Hunting Simulator 3 players could receive the Classic American Hunter Pack for free.
Like the other promotions currently being tracked, players should expect this to require ownership of the base game.
A Strange Month for Steam’s Free-to-Keep Promotions
What makes the September lineup interesting isn’t necessarily the value of any individual DLC.
It’s the amount of additional content appearing around the same period.
Steam’s free-to-keep promotions regularly attract attention when complete games temporarily drop to a 100% discount. Players claim the game during the promotion and keep it permanently afterward.
September currently looks considerably more DLC-heavy.
Four separate pieces of additional content appearing as potential freebies within a relatively short period would make this an unusual little streak for Steam.
Of course, that doesn’t mean we won’t see another complete game suddenly appear.
In fact, September has already demonstrated exactly why Steam giveaways can be difficult to predict.
Crystal Crisis Appeared Without Warning
Crystal Crisis recently became available as a free-to-keep title despite there being little advance warning that the promotion was coming.
The game essentially appeared as a freebie overnight.
That works both ways.
SteamDB can reveal upcoming promotions before they’re publicly announced, but entries aren’t an absolute guarantee that a giveaway will happen. Promotions can be changed, delayed, removed, or seemingly cancelled before players ever get the opportunity to claim them.
Meanwhile, other giveaways can arrive without being spotted far in advance.
Anyone watching SteamDB for upcoming freebies should therefore treat these listings as an early indication rather than an official release schedule.
Don’t Buy These DLC Packs Just Yet
If you already own any of the corresponding games and were considering purchasing one of these packs, it may be worth waiting to see whether the listed promotions actually go live.
There’s little reason to spend $4.99 on the Dying Light: The Beast Discharge Weapon Pack today if Steam is preparing to drop its price to zero shortly afterward.
At the same time, players shouldn’t assume they’ll definitely receive it for free until that 100% discount actually appears on Steam.
That’s the awkward part of tracking these promotions ahead of time.
More Steam Freebies Could Still Appear
September 2026 isn’t over yet, and Steam’s free-to-keep lineup could continue changing.
