Netflix ran into major technical problems during the premiere of the GTA 6 Extended Look, leaving many viewers unable to watch Rockstar Games’ latest showcase as it aired.
The presentation premiered on Netflix at 3:00 p.m. EST on Thursday, August 27. However, shortly after the event started, players began reporting problems accessing Netflix or loading the GTA 6 presentation.
Not everyone appears to have been affected. Some viewers managed to watch the showcase without interruptions, while others were unable to get into Netflix at all. Because of that, the full scale of the outage remains unclear.
GTA 6 Extended Look Draws Huge Attention
The GTA 6 Extended Look runs for approximately 27 minutes and provides a much closer look at Rockstar Games’ upcoming open-world title.
The presentation includes gameplay footage captured on PlayStation 5 alongside story scenes and additional details about the world players will eventually explore.
Netflix secured a timed exclusivity window for the presentation. The Extended Look is expected to remain exclusive to the streaming service for roughly six hours before Rockstar uploads it to its official YouTube channel.
That exclusivity has made the Netflix problems especially frustrating for players who wanted to watch the showcase immediately.
Netflix Struggles With Another Major Premiere
Netflix remains one of the largest streaming platforms in the world, but extremely popular live events and timed premieres have caused technical problems before.
One of the biggest examples came during the Jake Paul versus Mike Tyson boxing event, when viewers reported buffering, connection failures and degraded video quality while millions attempted to watch simultaneously.
Other major live broadcasts have faced similar issues.
Whenever a huge number of subscribers attempt to access the same piece of content at once, streaming infrastructure can come under significant pressure.
GTA 6 is arguably one of the worst possible games for that problem.
Interest surrounding Rockstar’s next Grand Theft Auto remains enormous, and the Extended Look represents one of the most substantial official showcases released for the game so far.
GTA 6 Leaks Did Little to Reduce Interest
The premiere also follows a wave of unofficial GTA 6 leaks that recently circulated across the internet.
Those leaks revealed information ahead of Rockstar’s planned presentation and removed some of the surprise surrounding the Extended Look.
However, they do not appear to have seriously reduced interest in the official showcase.
Players still rushed to Netflix to watch Rockstar’s presentation directly, potentially contributing to the technical problems experienced around the premiere.
Viewers Can Wait for the YouTube Release
Players who cannot access the Extended Look through Netflix currently have limited options.
The easiest solution is simply to wait until the timed exclusivity period ends.
Rockstar Games is expected to upload the full GTA 6 Extended Look to YouTube roughly six hours after the Netflix premiere, allowing viewers to watch it without relying on Netflix.
For now, some subscribers may continue experiencing problems while Netflix works to restore normal service.
