Battlefield Studios has released a new Battlefield 6 update that targets the NVIDIA GPU crashes affecting players, particularly those using newer RTX 50 series graphics cards.
The problem had been causing frustration for nearly two weeks. Some players experienced repeated driver crashes on certain maps, while others encountered problems after changing weapon attachments. Developers initially recommended that affected players downgrade their NVIDIA drivers while the team investigated the issue.
Now, Battlefield 6 Game Update 1.4.1.5 has arrived with several fixes aimed directly at these crashes.
Battlefield 6 RTX 50 Crashes Should Finally Be Fixed
The problems became particularly noticeable on systems equipped with NVIDIA’s RTX 50 series GPUs. Players reported crashes on maps containing large bodies of water, with Tsuru Reef being one of the most commonly mentioned examples.
Instead of a normal game crash, Battlefield 6 could cause the NVIDIA graphics driver itself to crash. As a temporary workaround, Battlefield Studios recommended rolling back to NVIDIA driver version 596.49.
However, the latest Battlefield 6 patch suggests the problem was more complicated than originally expected.
According to the Game Update 1.4.1.5 release notes, developers identified several different situations that could trigger NVIDIA driver crashes.
Large Bodies of Water Were Not the Only Problem
Maps featuring large amounts of water were already known to cause problems. However, Battlefield Studios has now revealed that other parts of Battlefield 6 could also contribute to GPU driver crashes.
The update addresses crashes connected to:
- Maps containing large bodies of water
- Custom Search functionality
- Changing attachments on the SOR-300SC carbine
The weapon attachment issue is particularly interesting. According to the patch notes, changing attachments on the SOR-300SC could cause an NVIDIA graphics driver crash.
Battlefield Studios does not specify which NVIDIA GPU generations were affected by this particular problem. However, RTX 50 series owners appear to have been among the players reporting the most trouble recently.
The NVIDIA Driver May Not Have Been the Main Problem
Initially, the crashes made NVIDIA’s graphics drivers look like the obvious culprit. After all, rolling back to an older driver was the recommended temporary solution.
However, Game Update 1.4.1.5 indicates that Battlefield 6 itself was at least partly responsible.
Multiple game-specific situations could apparently trigger the driver crash. Therefore, simply blaming NVIDIA’s latest drivers would not tell the entire story.
That also explains why Battlefield Studios needed additional time to investigate the problem instead of immediately releasing a small compatibility fix.
Latest NVIDIA Drivers Should Now Work
With Game Update 1.4.1.5 installed, Battlefield 6 players should hopefully be able to use the latest NVIDIA drivers without experiencing the same crashes.
That includes NVIDIA driver version 610.74 and newer.
Players who previously downgraded their drivers can therefore try updating again after installing the Battlefield 6 patch. However, anyone who continues experiencing crashes may still want to temporarily return to an older stable driver while further fixes arrive.
For RTX 50 owners, the update should nevertheless be welcome news. Having to downgrade graphics drivers simply to keep Battlefield 6 stable was far from ideal, especially when newer drivers can contain important fixes and optimizations for other games.
Battlefield Studios Took Nearly Two Weeks to Fix the Issue
Although Battlefield Studios acknowledged the NVIDIA crashing problem relatively quickly, players had to wait nearly two weeks for a proper game-side fix.
Considering RTX 50 cards represent some of NVIDIA’s newest hardware, compatibility problems of this scale can be especially frustrating. Players spending significant amounts of money on high-end gaming PCs understandably expect major releases such as Battlefield 6 to work correctly with current drivers.
Fortunately, Update 1.4.1.5 appears to address several of the underlying causes rather than simply relying on the previous driver rollback workaround.
Whether the update completely eliminates NVIDIA driver crashes remains to be seen. Still, affected players should install the latest Battlefield 6 update before attempting any further driver troubleshooting.
