Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake Still Set for 2026, November Release Looks Likely

Nintendo has confirmed that The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake remains on track for 2026. While the company still hasn’t announced an exact release date, November currently looks like the strongest candidate.

Nintendo included the upcoming Ocarina of Time remake for Nintendo Switch 2 in its latest financial report. That means the project remains part of Nintendo’s 2026 release schedule.

However, Nintendo stopped short of narrowing down the launch window. Players will have to wait a little longer before they can mark an exact date on their calendars.

Nintendo Still Plans Ocarina of Time Remake for 2026

Nintendo first teased the remake during its June Nintendo Direct. The company showed only a short trailer, so many details remain under wraps.

The footage included Link sleeping, immediately giving longtime Zelda fans a familiar glimpse into the return of the Nintendo 64 classic.

Nintendo also appears to be taking the remake in a more realistic visual direction. Still, the teaser didn’t show enough gameplay to determine exactly how much Nintendo has changed.

As a result, questions remain about the combat, world design, controls, dungeons, and other gameplay systems.

What we do know is much more important right now: Nintendo still lists Ocarina of Time for 2026.

That confirmation reduces concerns about a possible delay into 2027.

November Looks Like the Best Release Window

Nintendo hasn’t officially announced November. However, its current release calendar makes that month increasingly interesting.

Nintendo tends to give its biggest releases some breathing room instead of launching several major first-party games at once.

September already has Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave on the schedule. Meanwhile, Nintendo Switch Sports Resort currently occupies October.

That leaves November with considerably more room.

Launching Ocarina of Time during November would also put one of Nintendo’s biggest franchises in stores during the important holiday shopping period.

For a remake carrying the name The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, that position could make plenty of sense.

Could Ocarina of Time Launch on November 11?

One date continues to attract attention from Zelda fans: November 11, 2026.

The theory largely comes from Nintendo’s amiibo schedule.

Nintendo has previously coordinated amiibo releases with related games. Because of that history, fans have started looking at the November amiibo timing for clues about Ocarina of Time.

However, there is one major problem with the November 11 theory.

November 11, 2026 falls on a Wednesday.

Nintendo doesn’t typically launch its biggest new games on Wednesdays. Therefore, treating November 11 as a confirmed or even highly probable release date would be premature.

Instead, the first half of November currently looks like the safer prediction.

Nintendo could release the game shortly before or after the rumored November 11 amiibo date while keeping its usual launch strategy intact.

November Could Give Zelda Plenty of Breathing Room

The wider 2026 release calendar could also work in Nintendo’s favor.

Several third-party publishers have reportedly positioned games earlier in the year or around September as companies attempt to avoid competing directly with Grand Theft Auto 6.

That situation could leave Nintendo with an attractive opening later in the year.

Of course, GTA 6 isn’t currently coming to Nintendo Switch 2 anyway. Therefore, Ocarina of Time doesn’t face the same direct platform competition that PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S releases might experience.

More importantly, Nintendo controls its own ecosystem.

A major Zelda release during the holiday season could become one of the Switch 2’s biggest software releases of the year.

Ocarina of Time Could Become a Major Switch 2 Holiday Game

Nintendo has plenty of reasons to position the remake as a major holiday release.

The original The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remains one of Nintendo’s most famous games. It originally launched for Nintendo 64 in 1998 and became one of the defining 3D adventure games of its generation.

Nintendo later revisited the game with The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D for Nintendo 3DS.

The Switch 2 project appears to go considerably further.

Rather than simply bringing an older version to newer hardware, Nintendo is presenting this project as a modern remake built around its current console generation.

That gives Nintendo an opportunity to introduce Ocarina of Time to a new audience while also targeting longtime Zelda players.

Nintendo Still Has Plenty to Reveal

Despite the growing release-date speculation, Nintendo has revealed surprisingly little about the remake.

Several major questions remain unanswered.

Players still don’t know how closely the remake will follow the original game. Nintendo also hasn’t explained whether it will expand Hyrule, redesign existing areas, change combat mechanics, or introduce entirely new content.

Performance targets also remain unknown.

Considering the capabilities of Nintendo Switch 2, players will likely expect major improvements to resolution, frame rate, lighting, character models, environments, and loading compared with previous versions.

However, Nintendo hasn’t confirmed those technical details yet.

September Nintendo Direct Could Bring Answers

A rumored Nintendo Direct in September could become the next major opportunity for Nintendo to reveal more.

If Ocarina of Time really is targeting November, Nintendo would need to begin its larger marketing campaign relatively soon.

September would provide enough time for Nintendo to show gameplay, explain the remake’s new features, open pre-orders, and finally announce the release date.

Nintendo could also use the presentation to explain its amiibo plans.

Until then, November remains speculation rather than confirmation.

Ocarina of Time Remake Remains on Track

For now, Zelda fans at least have one important confirmation.

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake is still scheduled for 2026.

Nintendo hasn’t announced the month, but its current first-party schedule makes November increasingly difficult to ignore. The rumored November 11 connection adds another clue, although the unusual Wednesday date means players shouldn’t circle that specific day just yet.

A release somewhere during the first two weeks of November 2026 currently looks like the more realistic possibility.

Nintendo could still choose December or surprise players with an earlier launch. Until the company announces the date itself, nothing beyond the 2026 window is guaranteed.

Still, with Nintendo keeping Ocarina of Time on its financial calendar, Link’s return to Hyrule appears to be getting closer.
