Cyberpunk 2077 Reaches Highest Steam Player Count Since 2023

Cyberpunk 2077 is enjoying another surge in popularity, reaching its highest Steam player count in more than two years. After one of gaming’s most infamous launches in 2020, CD Projekt Red’s open-world RPG continues to prove that a successful comeback is possible, with tens of thousands of players returning to Night City.

Cyberpunk 2077 Surpasses 87,000 Concurrent Steam Players

According to the latest Steam player data, Cyberpunk 2077 peaked at 87,025 concurrent players during the final weekend of June 2026. That marks the game’s highest Steam player count since December 2023, when player numbers briefly climbed above 88,000 following the success of the Phantom Liberty expansion.

The milestone is particularly impressive considering the game typically averages between 20,000 and 30,000 concurrent players each month. Jumping to more than 87,000 players highlights a significant spike in interest.

Steam Sale Likely Played a Major Role

One of the biggest reasons behind the surge appears to be the recent Steam Summer Sale.

CD Projekt Red offered the base version of Cyberpunk 2077 at 70% off, reducing the price to $17.99—its largest discount on Steam so far. Players could also purchase the game together with the Phantom Liberty expansion at a 60% discount, bringing the bundle down to approximately $33.10.

Large discounts have historically attracted waves of new players, while also convincing many existing owners to return for another playthrough.

Edgerunners 2 Could Push Player Numbers Even Higher

Another factor fueling renewed interest is the announcement of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2, which is scheduled to premiere in Fall 2026.

The original anime had an enormous impact on the game. Following its release in 2022, Cyberpunk 2077 experienced one of its biggest player spikes ever, exceeding 136,000 concurrent Steam players. Even the sequel’s announcement in 2025 resulted in another noticeable increase in active players.

With the second season now approaching, Cyberpunk 2077 could see another major boost once the anime launches later this year.

Cyberpunk Franchise Continues to Expand

The Cyberpunk universe has remained active throughout 2026 with several high-profile projects helping keep the franchise in the spotlight.

Earlier this year, the official Cyberpunk Trading Card Game set crowdfunding records on Kickstarter. CD Projekt Red also revealed the arcade title Cyberpunk 2077: Chrome Rush, while Cyberpunk: Edgerunners collaborated with Wuthering Waves, bringing fan-favorite characters Lucy and Rebecca into the game.

Combined with ongoing community interest, these projects continue to introduce new audiences to Night City while encouraging returning players to jump back into Cyberpunk 2077.

Cyberpunk 2077’s Comeback Continues

Few games have managed a turnaround as remarkable as Cyberpunk 2077. Thanks to years of updates, major content releases, successful spin-offs, and aggressive Steam discounts, the RPG continues to attract a healthy player base nearly six years after launch.

With Edgerunners 2 arriving later this year and more Cyberpunk projects already in development, Night City may not have reached its peak just yet.
