Grand Theft Auto 6 fans may have uncovered another hidden detail in Rockstar Games’ highly anticipated open-world title. While the community continues to wait for a third trailer, players are still analyzing every frame of the footage already released, and one newly discovered detail appears to pay tribute to one of the franchise’s most iconic characters.
A Hidden Vice City Reference
The possible Easter egg appears during a brief scene in GTA 6’s second trailer. While most viewers focused on the action taking place in the foreground, some eagle-eyed fans noticed a subtle detail hidden in the background.
During a moment where Jason confronts and slaps a shopkeeper, an illustration hanging on a nearby wall can be seen for only a fraction of a second. After brightening and zooming into the image, fans noticed that the artwork depicts an iguana wearing what appears to be the same iconic Hawaiian shirt associated with Tommy Vercetti, the protagonist of GTA: Vice City.
The shirt design seemingly matches Tommy’s famous blue outfit featuring white and darker blue palm-like patterns. Due to the limited resolution and the extremely short appearance of the image, Rockstar has not confirmed whether the artwork is intentionally referencing Tommy. However, many fans believe the resemblance is far too close to be accidental.
Why Fans Believe It Is Intentional
Rockstar Games has a long history of hiding references to previous entries throughout the Grand Theft Auto series. GTA 5 featured numerous nods to Vice City, including murals inspired by the original game’s cover art and various references to characters and locations from the beloved 2002 classic.
Because GTA 6 returns players to the modern version of Vice City, many fans expected Rockstar to include subtle tributes to the game’s legacy. A hidden Tommy Vercetti reference would be a fitting way to acknowledge one of the franchise’s most recognizable protagonists without directly including him in the story.
