The Pokemon Company has officially unveiled a brand-new animated project titled Pokemon Tales: The Misadventures of Sirfetch’d and Pichu. The upcoming series will take a very different approach from the traditional anime, embracing a stop-motion style and focusing on a lighthearted adventure through the Galar region.
While an exact release date has not yet been announced, the new series is scheduled to begin airing sometime in 2027.
A New Stop-Motion Adventure
The announcement was accompanied by official artwork featuring Pichu riding atop Sirfetch’d’s signature leek sword while a Fletchling flies nearby. The image also hints at the comedic nature of the series, showing Sirfetch’d seemingly about to walk off a cliff.
According to the teaser, viewers can expect an “epic stop-motion journey” centered around the unlikely duo as they travel across the Galar region introduced in Pokemon Sword and Shield.
Unlike the more action-focused main anime, this project appears to place a stronger emphasis on humor and character interactions.
Aardman Animations Is Bringing the Series to Life
Animation duties are being handled by the renowned UK-based studio Aardman Animations. The company is famous for its distinctive stop-motion style and has previously produced beloved projects such as Wallace & Gromit, Chicken Run, and Shaun the Sheep.
The collaboration marks one of the most unique visual directions Pokemon has taken in recent years and could offer fans a fresh perspective on the franchise’s world and characters.
Another Addition to Pokemon’s Expanding Animation Lineup
Pokemon has built an extensive animation library since the debut of its original anime in 1997. Over the years, the franchise has produced more than 1,300 episodes, 23 theatrical films, and numerous side projects.
Recent spin-offs have explored different storytelling styles, including Pokemon Concierge and several animated shorts. Pokemon Tales: The Misadventures of Sirfetch’d and Pichu will continue that trend by introducing a stop-motion format rarely associated with the series.
A Busy Future for Pokemon Fans
The year 2027 is already shaping up to be a major one for the franchise. In addition to the new stop-motion series, fans are expecting the arrival of the tenth generation of Pokemon games, currently known as Pokemon Winds and Waves, which are planned for Nintendo Switch 2.
A new main-series anime arc is also expected to launch around the same period. Before that, viewers can look forward to Wonder Voyage, the final story arc connected to the Scarlet and Violet era, which is set to premiere in late May 2026.
With a new visual style and a focus on comedy, Pokemon Tales: The Misadventures of Sirfetch’d and Pichu could become one of the franchise’s most unusual and charming projects yet.
