Treyarch and Raven Software are preparing to launch Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, with new features, maps, and returning mechanics like scorestreaks. While the system is a fan-favorite, one of the newest additions — the Gravemaker scorestreak — has already stirred controversy in the community.
Scorestreaks Returning in Black Ops 7
Scorestreaks have long been a staple of the Call of Duty series, rewarding players with powerful tools once a certain score threshold is met. They range from simple options like the RC-XD — a remote-controlled explosive vehicle featured in Black Ops 6 — to advanced tools such as the HARP, which reveals enemy positions in real time.
Black Ops 7 continues this tradition, but with its own twist: a mix of returning scorestreaks and new options designed to change battlefield strategy. Among them is Gravemaker, a sniper-based scorestreak that has quickly become one of the most talked-about features.
Why Gravemaker Is Causing Debate
The Gravemaker scorestreak was first revealed during the Call of Duty NEXT event on September 22. Players unlock it at Gunnery Sergeant 1, level 16, and it allows them to assemble a portable one-shot sniper rifle. What sets it apart is its ability to identify enemies through cover, making them easy targets.
This has led many players to argue the scorestreak functions like a “free wallhack.” Well-known streamers such as Chris “Simp” Lehr of FaZe and Tim “Timthetatman” Betar showcased its potential during early play sessions, demonstrating just how effective it can be at eliminating enemies. The footage quickly fueled concerns that Gravemaker may disrupt game balance.
Overclock System Enhancements
Black Ops 7 introduces the Overclock system, which upgrades equipment and scorestreaks. For Gravemaker, Overclock 1 provides a larger magazine with additional ammo, while Overclock 2 reduces its charge time, making it faster and deadlier. These enhancements have only intensified debates about whether the scorestreak is too strong in its current state.
Beta Testing Details
Players will have the chance to test Gravemaker and other scorestreaks during the Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 beta. Early access begins on October 2, with open beta available for all players from October 5 through October 8.
The beta will feature:
- Six multiplayer maps
- Five modes, including Team Deathmatch
- The Vandorn Farm Zombies map
- Rewards for participating
As the community prepares for beta testing, many will be watching closely to see if Gravemaker’s balance is adjusted before the game’s full release.
