Shade Silver Free on Steam for a Limited Time

Indie Bullet Hell Game Packed With Content

Steam users can now grab the indie puzzle-shooter Shade Silver for free, but only until August 21 at 10 AM PT. Developed by solo creator Chris Allen, the game originally launched on June 10, 2024, and is currently available at a 100% discount. Once the promotion ends, the title will return to its regular price of $3.

Despite being made by a single developer, Shade Silver delivers an impressive amount of content. Players can expect 81 levels, 75 secrets, 50 unique enemies, 4 bosses, and over 100 original music tracks. The game blends elements of bullet hell combat, dungeon crawling, platforming, and puzzle-solving, making it a unique offering in the indie space. With a small file size of just 2.11 GB and minimal system requirements, almost any modern PC can run it without issue.

Reception From Players

The community response on Steam has been largely positive, with many praising the game’s retro atmosphere, creative level design, and sheer passion poured into it. Some criticisms have surfaced, particularly regarding enemy hitboxes and a difficult-to-read font, but players generally consider these issues minor compared to the overall experience. For many, the consensus is that Shade Silver is more than worth its normal price — making it an easy recommendation while it’s free.

Celebrating the Launch of Shade Silver 2

The free promotion coincides with the release of Allen’s latest project, Shade Silver 2: A Walk In The Darkness, which expands on the original with darker mechanics, advanced puzzles, and a Nightmare system that effectively creates two experiences in one. The sequel is available now on Steam for $6.

What’s Next From the Developer

Allen is already working on his third project, Vein-Weaver Knitting, a dark fantasy platformer with heavy horror elements. Unlike Shade Silver’s bullet hell and puzzle focus, this upcoming game delves into body horror and twisted dimensions. A free demo is currently available on Steam for players who want an early look.
