Warzone Season 5 Falls Flat as Battlefield 6’s Rumored BR Mode Gains Hype

With Call of Duty: Warzone Season 5 just around the corner, excitement among players is noticeably subdued. Despite the reopening of the Stadium POI in Verdansk and a handful of limited-time modes (LTMs), the update feels underwhelming—especially when compared to the wealth of content arriving in Black Ops 6.

BO6 is bringing two brand-new multiplayer maps along with visual reimaginings of beloved classics like Casino from Black Ops 4 and WMD from the original Black Ops. The Zombies mode is also getting its final map, Reckoning, which features a new Wonder Weapon and a unique Mr. Peeks Field Upgrade. In contrast, Warzone Season 5 feels like a minimal patch rather than a seasonal refresh.

The Avalon Disappointment

For months, fans held out hope that the long-rumored Avalon map—initially teased in the Black Ops 6 campaign and frequently spotted in leaks—would finally become a full-scale battle royale experience in Warzone. The Season 5 trailer seemed to confirm this, ending with an aerial view of Avalon while discussing its narrative context.

However, it now appears that Avalon will not be coming to Warzone anytime soon, if at all. Instead of delivering on a map that could have introduced Blackout-style gameplay and integrated iconic POIs based on legacy CoD maps, Season 5 is sticking with the familiar rotation of Verdansk and Rebirth Island. For many, this is the final letdown in a long string of disappointments.

Warzone’s Repetitiveness Is Wearing Thin

Despite being a long-time Call of Duty player, the stagnation in Warzone’s map pool and the lack of meaningful innovation has become difficult to ignore. While the core mechanics remain solid, many players have grown tired of running the same loop across Verdansk and Rebirth over and over again. The lack of a new playspace—especially one with the potential of Avalon—feels like a missed opportunity, and could push disillusioned fans toward the competition.

Battlefield 6’s Second Shot at Battle Royale

Enter Battlefield 6. Though little is confirmed, strong rumors suggest that DICE is preparing a full-featured battle royale mode for the game—one that may arrive a few months after the main release. The mode is said to include 36 points of interest and even a metro system, sparking comparisons to fan-favorite maps like Operation Metro.

Previous attempts by Battlefield to enter the BR space, such as Firestorm in Battlefield 5 and Hazard Zone in 2042, failed to gain lasting traction. Firestorm in particular was a technically strong mode that fell apart due to major issues like lack of support, rampant cheating, and a paywall blocking entry.

This time around, DICE appears to be learning from its past missteps. If Battlefield 6’s rumored BR mode launches with solid anti-cheat, is free to access, and leans into the franchise’s signature large-scale destruction and iconic locations, it could become a serious contender to Warzone.

Will Battlefield Reclaim Its Crown?

Although any details should be treated as unconfirmed until officially announced, it’s not hard to imagine a successful Battlefield battle royale mode stealing attention from an increasingly stale Warzone experience. If DICE delivers on community expectations—perhaps even revisiting legacy locations like Wake Island, Damavand Peak, or Siege of Shanghai within the same match—it could offer the kind of dynamic BR gameplay fans have been craving.

For now, Warzone Season 5 feels more like a placeholder than a real evolution. Without Avalon or any major shake-up, it risks alienating longtime players who are growing bored of its recycled content. Meanwhile, Battlefield 6 has a real chance to redefine the BR experience—if it can execute its vision without compromise.
