Crossout (Beta) I have been playing Crossout for a while now (few months) and got some of my friends to play together with me. The best way to describe Crossout.. Mad Max meets Lego.. It’s a fun game but can cost a lot of time very very quickly.
When you move up the ranks and build vehicles with a higher Power Score (PS) you will find out that the game isn’t all luck or skill. Most will just plow you under with purple or better weapons. Though it can be hard at times. The game is very entertaining (as per my friends and my own opinion). I will not be boring you with the background story of the game. There is one and you can read it on the site of the game if you like to. I want to convey what I liked and disliked about the game. You start out as a new member of the Engineers (basic faction you never leave the Engineers). They provide you with basic parts to build a car. That car is… well its crap but you can change that pretty fast by leveling up with the Engineers.
That will get you more and better parts. When you are level 10 you get to choose a new/extra faction. Different weapons and armor make for different play-styles. If you like it fast you might want to go for the Lunatics. The Lunatics also like a close and personal attack with melee weapons or shotguns. Like it slow and heavy? Scavengers is the way to go for you. They also like to use cannons. If medium be the way you like it then you might want to look at the Nomads. They prefer a more balanced way of killing their enemies. And if your level 25 with the Engineers you will get the chance to join the Steppen wolfs. They are the hightech faction of the game. They like ranged combat.
You will get great exp and boosts and loot when doing Raids(PVE). Doing Missions(PVP) will get you parts, scrap and other stuff. Doing Raids will sometimes feel like you are massively overpowered (with the right parts). Doing Missions with the same machine will however yield VERY different results. Players will shoot at your weapons so always try to have a backup (like melee weapons). Some weapons even don’t require power to be mounted (knives). As said before the lower tier games (PVP) can be more entertaining than the higher tier games. Matchmaking will need a very big update and a lot of work before working as it should. Having played all the factions (all but the Steppen wolves) I have concluded that my play-style is very much in line of the Lunatics.
The batshit crazy play-style where speed is your armor suits me perfectly. I also enjoy a heavy machine at some times. But most of the time I will play with an ultra light vehicle with some melee weapons and rocket launchers. Trying the different factions and parts are costly.. They cost credits and there are 2 ways to get credits. Grinding parts, resources and crates and selling them or going to the online store.
The first one is free but takes a very long time to get enough credits to buy awesome stuff. The second one is simple and quick but costs real money. In that way the game gets its cashflow going and pays for all things for the game (servers, updates and so on). Shame that gets the game a pay 2 win reputation though. All-in all I can really recommend the game. If you are into post apocalyptic games/movies and want to feel like Mad Max this really is the game for you. If you want structure and team-play.. you might want to look at other games. PVE feels well balanced and is very enjoyable to do. PVP is more chaotic and might be less enjoyable for some people. Bots don’t start targeting your weapons as players do. So your car will survive a little longer in PVE than in PVP games.
