Attention members! The popular racing game, Forza Horizon 4, is set to be delisted from digital storefronts. Developer Playground Games has announced that due to licensing and partner agreements, sales of this 2018 open-world racer will cease, and the game will be removed from Microsoft stores and Steam on December 15th, 2024.
While you still have some time to purchase the game, it’s important to note that the final in-game event will run from July 25th to August 22nd. After this period, certain achievements linked to the seasonal Festival Playlists will no longer be obtainable.
Adding to the urgency, Forza Horizon 4’s downloadable content (DLC) is being delisted starting today. However, there is good news for Xbox Game Pass subscribers who have already purchased some DLC. If you fall into this category, you qualify for a token to download the full game and continue playing after the delisting date. This game code will be sent to eligible players with a fully paid Xbox Game Pass subscription in the coming days and must be redeemed by June 25th, 2026.
In a somewhat surprising move, Playground Games has stated in its FAQ that the servers will remain active post-delisting, so both offline and online modes will still be playable. Between this and qualifying Game Pass subscribers getting a code to keep the game, it seems Playground is trying to make the best of an unfortunate situation. This predicament often affects games with real-life car and music licenses, making delistings messy and convoluted.
Forza Horizon 4 will be just over six years old when it’s pulled from digital stores, leaving only what’s left out there of physical Xbox copies in circulation for latecomers or preservationists to explore. Sure, Forza Horizon 5 was a worthy successor, and the franchise is likely to continue as the more bombastic counterpart to Forza Motorsport, but it never feels normal or right for digital games to have such short lifespans.
Don’t miss your chance to own this game before it disappears from digital shelves!
